Arghh, rounded off both bolts holding bottle cage #2 on. I only need one bottle now my Sportive work is done till probably August time.

How do I get the bloody things out now?

Ouch. Are they hex? You could try the next size up star head and jam it in there. Spray some GT85 into the threads/interface if possible and leave it to soak in.

Failing that your next step is using a dremel or saw to cut a flat head in them but that might not be possible with your cages. Thread extractors work well but are obviously a little more specialist. They're a worthy investment, I had luck drilling out a mudguard mount behind my bottom bracket to then remove one. Sometimes just drilling through the bolt can be enough to release the tension but takes a very steady hand as you can't use a press very easily. Sacrificing the cage rather than drilling in (so you can cut a head into the bolt) might be a safer option but obviously trashes the cage.

I cannot advise this unless you have no other option as it's obviously pretty risky on a carbon frame (even though the bottle bosses should be aluminium bonded into the carbon). I've cut heads into multiple mudguard mounts as they're typical for it - aluminium exposed to the elements.

Consider it a learning curve - don't put your bolts in so tight, put them in looser with some threadlock! :D

Holy Christ that sounds amazing!
It is! The Jaffacake one less so... Currently working my way through 2kg of that before I can go back to Millionaires lol... Thankfully I didn't order 4kg!

Rubber band, use a bigger allen key, saw a line to use a screw driver in it.

And yeah drill.

Rounded bolts are a PITA.

Mini mole grips or pliers should do it, they shouldnt be that tight. If its not a carbon frame you could try gently hammering on a larger sized allen key as Begbie suggested

It is carbon so yeah I'm going to have to be careful. I might just have to sacrifice the cage - it's matt against a gloss frame so it's been annoying me anyway.

I'd get Di2 to be honest, just because it's plug and forget and never have to worry about indexing/changing cables etc ever again! Easier to transport the bike too, just take off the derailleur and pack it up. Plus wheels can be purchased much cheaper from other means if you're happy to do some research.

Thought occurred to me tonight on Di2 vs wheels. New wheels are a much easier upgrade in a year or two, whereas a swap from mechanical to Di2 means a whole load of spannering and setup time.

I've now been ogling the Reilly Cycleworks Spectre Disc. Always fancied a Ti bike - what are budgets for other than breaking?

Did the "fix" on my Planet-X last night and looks like it should be fine (although not fine enough to avoid a new bike if Mrs Chri5 reads this!). Three cable ties on the top tube with a some electrical tape underneath to protect the frame.

Did anyone see the power meter on gcn last night that's on kick starter?

I've given it a punt, at £209 for double sided it'll hopefully be a bargain

Yes it looked quite an interesting solution. My only complaint would be I wished they designed it so it could be screwed in from the inside so it hides the pod on the inside of the crank. I like my bikes to look tidy :o

So after 18 month off the bike I've seen the error of my ways and I've jumped back on the bike:p Whats the go to gear now, Rapha core bundle of Shorts and a Top seems like a decent option or has anyone got any better options? Also for winter, I used to have a Castelli Gabba long sleeve jacket but they don't seem to do those anymore. Has anyone got any alternatives?

CVR last night was fun! Not as brutal as the previous couple as I measured my effort riding for a teammate and was very tactical. My teammates up the road smashed things to bits taking the top 9 spots at the finish with me and Derek coming in 12th & 13th. Amazing result and leaves me in 4th overall for the series so far.

RIP composite bottle cage - it just took one for the team. Job done, bolts out.
Good result! Threads ok? What technique did you use?

Good news with the PX 'fix'.

Nice Reilly, just check what wheels it comes with as those Fulcrum Racing Sport DB on there are cheap & heavy! Like £120-£150 cheap. For a £2800 bike it's annoying, especially when the picture on their site has £450-500 Zondas on it. :(

You can save it by clicking on 'Export this route' on the right hand side, it'll download it as a gpx.

Which PWM?Ah yeah the IQ2. Steer away and buy a single sided stages.

You're probably going to have a long wait, at least 10-12 months.

Welcome back! :D

I really rate the Rapha Core shorts, absolutely love them! I found them even more comfortable than the Pro Team £190 ones! What other shorts did you prefer? The pad is quite wide on the Core, which suits me. The other wider pad shorts I've preferred are Sportful with BodyComfort Pro pads. Thicker and wider than the Castelli KISS and Progetto pads generally found on the others I own.

Castelli Gabba is now called the Perfetto.
