Road Cycling

Anyone who enjoys data here's a good ride - Harry Tanfields Tour de Yorkshire stage #1 winning ride from yesterday. He's got the HR & Power data still showing, so looking at his HR you can see the effort it took to get into the early breakaway, the turns on the front of the 6 man group, the jump in the last 25km once they realise they might stay away from the peloton with the final pull into the finish along with the huge kick/ramp to win from the back of the group.

Mega ride & result mate, well done! Some great progress and good rewards for all your hard work! :D

Amazing result, welcome back! It must feel good to get to the bottom of it (eventually)?! Cartilage/kneecap damage or something similar?

You get your car serviced & MOT'd, you should your body too. Even as a preventative when nothing is wrong  nothing wrong with a bit of self pampering ;)

It was new one on me, I didn't realise it was such a common thing to do. It was my first session yesterday so its still early days - what prompted the post was that even after less than 24 hours my knee/leg feels far better. The advice on stretches on how to do them correctly was equally worth it.

Got 5 sessions booked in and I've gone from being down the dumps with it all to being fairly confident I've finally found the cause of the problem :cool:

Thinking of getting this nopinz skinsuit. Maybe it will help me go sub 20 (hahaha not likely!). Maybe a low 22 or 21 on the right course.

I like the number pocket as pinning numbers into expensive suits is a pita & they can flap.

Also it comes in a colour other than black! If I wanted to get run over then wearing all black is the way to go, I had two people pull dumb moves last night and i was in high vis green.
.
Got 4 of them. Great suits! Really comfortable pad too which I've never had with previous suits.

Have a good long weekend all! Club/group ride for me tomorrow and really must go for an adventure on the sunday or monday.

I really need to sort a good recovery/flexibility/rolling/core routine out. Maybe even physio. My rolling is so sporadic as I'm even more time pressed than before, not even sure of the last time when I did! Would a bi-monthly physio be a good substitute? :o

That's great to hear. I've got a friend who is constantly injuring his back or his knee, always seems to be 1 or the other! He goes to physio but really think he needs to find a better one :(

My core is quite frankly ******. I need to do a lot to work and strengthen it. And prioritize it. It’ll really help my riding I think. Well, comfort wise.

Today I wanted to ride to the pub to meet mates for lunch but really wanted to take the Aeroad. Jumped on it, got 5.5km and tyre blew a hole in the side and funnily enough no spare tyre. Wife came to collect me haha

My Prime RP-50 Carbon Wheels arrived today, was hoping to put them on tonight ready for an epic ride in the morning but they’ve not put any rim tape on :(

Going to be using my 28mm Vittoria Corsa Control G+ and tubes off the wheels It already has on, will electrical be ok or should I wait and get some proper tape?

This is just my luck, at least it’s not as bad as when Canyon sent me a new bike minus tyres, tubes and skewers!!!

The supersix Evo hi mod frame a local fella has been trying to sell me for ages came into.my hands today

It was a 58 not a 56. I think I still want one though

How would you rate the FSR XC to more modern FS bikes of a similar ability? It's one of the few older framesets I'd consider buying to then build up with newer components (I basically can't afford a high spec brand new FS and rather than buying a suspect S/H one I'd much prefer to buy a frame to strip & then build it back up).

I really like mine. Sure, it's a bit 'unfashionable' now as it has 26" wheels, but it didn't stop being a good bike just because someone changed wheel standards!

Back to road bike chat, I finally got around to switching from SPDs to some Look Keo pedals to tide me over until my Vectors arrive. Oh my god, they are so annoying in comparison! The cleats are absolutely huge and the single sided aspect of road pedals is doing my head in!! Please tell me it gets more natural with time?

Well I had fun yesterday!

Up out the door early to catch the 7am ferry to the Isle of Wight to do the double. Working our way clockwise to cowes and back round.

Got off to a good start when a car broke down on the ferry we were due to get delaying us leaving by a few minutes. But set off in the warm May sun with just minimal layers. Unfortunately I only lasted 3 miles and I got a puncture. I changed the tube and borrowed my mares pump but it wasn't going up... . Not a good sign. I also found a cut in my tyre.so a quick gel to use in the tyre as a bit of protection and off we went.. I lasted a whole 3.5 more miles before getting another...

My mate rode on to Sandown at this point and I tried to hitch hike after a couple of unsuccessful calls to taxi companies. All to no avail. Luckily I found a taxi company who'd pick me up and got dropped to the nearest bike shop.

One of your finest tyres and puncture repair kits please good sir. I got handed a schwable lugano endurance.... The thing weighed a ton. But it worked and we were off. By now it was about half 9 but we still had a good 105 miles to do.

Luckily the gods favoured us and provided a lovely clear sunny day with a slight south easterly wind on our backs that morning and we managed to get to the needles for our first ice cream.. I had noticed my tyre had gone a bit soft. Thinking the worst I gave it a pump up anyway or attempted to with my mates pump.mmmm the pump is releasing air and not doing anything. Great so seems the puncture I had earlier may not have existed. Got a few pumps in the tyre and carried on. Unfortunately I did have quite a slowy probably from a leaky valve which required a bit of attention a few more times during the day. Luckily no more changes though!

We ploughed on to cowes and then headed back to Yarmouth for a delayed lunch. The weather staying kind with a light breeze that had now swung to a south westerly giving us a tailwind again on the south side of the island.

In the afternoon heading back along the flat bit at the south I was tapping out a steady rhythm but my mate had entered the quiet zone and started drifting off the wheel regularly. We needed some food! So stopped in Shanklin to grab some emergency coke and biscuits. This got him going again. It was now about hf 4 and we needed to get back as we were going out for dinner with our other halves.

We expected to finish by about 5 so we decided to push on and get the 6pm and cut the ride a bit short. we made it back to the ferry port at dead on 6pm. Unluckyly for us is we just missed the ferry so we took the bold decision to finish the loop and carry on to cowes and back. Finally back to the ferry port at half 6. After some old codger tried to kill us both by squeezing between a traffic island and us just 500 yards from the ferry port.

All in all a great day in the end but that first hour could have ruined it all.

Lesson learnt? Take your own damn pump & then you won’t get any punctures ;)

I got out early today and did 120km solo, apart from Parbold Hill hurting me at the end (it’s not particularly hard or long but fairly steep) a little headwind and 110km in the legs meant a committed runner was level pegging with me for a while!

I had my own pump, but his was in his pocket and to hand! All about team work!

The IOW is fantastic riding, great scenery and only as challenging as you make it.

I had an off yesterday, on the friggin' warm down of my ride, 100m from my front door, on my birthday! Nothing I didn't survive but a jersey, set of bibs and helmet are casualties. Saddle, for now, is alright though scuffed and both hood Deck Plates also scuffed but replaceable.

Cliffs: drinking, not looking forward (car alarm), gust of wind & divot, 20mph, splat. Cartwheel, Bellyflop.

Fair bit of road-rash, abrasions & bruising but (foolishly I know...) it didn't detract from today's imperial.

I normally leave mine at home if I'm riding with a buddy :D

Photos looked pretty grim! Least you were close to the house.

Friend came off late last year.

Dislocated hip, fragment of hip broken, broken femur, crap load of road rash. Has gave me the absolute fear of descending.
