Road Cycling

The trick with the Endurance bikes is they are designed to not beat you up. So you can do a 200+km ride and not feel battered. Makes them feel a bit remote or less direct than the racy stuff. Should isolate some of the bumps n hits.
Agreed.

Yeah, the Bianchi XR3/4 has 'Counterveil' which is some kinda elastomer in some of the carbon layup which flexes so the whole frame absorbs vibration, while still remaining stiff. The Specialized Roubaix has a 'Future Shock' decoupler at the headset which takes the sting out of shocks and absorbs vibration, also has a 'zertz' damper on the CG-R seattube (same setup as the Diverge). The Defy, Infinito and Synapse just have more relaxed geometries. So does the Wessex I think?

The Foil, XR3, Roubaix, Tarmac and Addict will all be firmer rides as they're race machines. Geometries will not be as relaxed as the others, but they'll be 'quicker' and as more race orientated will steer more direct, maybe even feeling twitchy in comparison. The Addict is more of a lightweight climbing bike than the others too, so you may even find that stiffer/harsh on rough surfaces.

If it was me I'd be choosing between the Tarmac Disc, XR3 and Foil (in that order if budget wasn't a concern). But then I already have 2 'endurance' style bikes.

Me on the Stratford CFC going for the double overtake :)

Great pic! You always seem to find the good photographers! Great game face too, mine looks like I'm chewing wasps ;)

Yeah, it would be more sensical to warranty them by hours usage. Then we would be complaining about that instead being so low :p

Bearing information is 'proprietary' and not readily available. Each pedal has 3 sets, 2 needle & 1 cartridge. I don't fancy taking apart a working pedal to try and save a few bob with such significant downside.
Yeah, same for much of our equipment - usage & conditions matter far more than distance & age!

Thinking about it now, it's not surprising they keep the bearings under their control as it keeps them in future business. Although that's a good thing as it adds value to older PWM's as they become less 'disposable', like everything else electronic seems to be! :(

Good work with the seatpost, I've got an extra vibration kinda noise starting somewhere towards the front of mine. Sounds like headset but I'll bet it's the camera cradle as it's mounted inverted so carries the weight of the camera against the mechanism (which is only plastic). Might have to consider retiring my 5 year old VIRB, but it's still working well.

Nice move. Mind you, he'll beast you on the pull-ups at the top!
Haha, is it me or does the other guy look a bit like Mat Hayman?

Three different chain gangs in three nights for me. Tonight was rapid as the wind was behind us on the way out, I looked at the speed at one point whilst going through at 38mph(average 25mph for 22 miles), all good until on the way back taking a spell was 24mph at hellawatttzzzzzz.
Saw you'd been beasting yourself! Good riding mate, some good fitness & form you've found!

Lot of metric posts now. Bigger numbers? ;)
Rule 24.

Although I have to admit I only understand miles & feet so that's what I'm using! :o

New saddle has arrived:

Nice, let me know what it's like! It's not too dissimilar to what I'm using and I have considered getting a more rounded nosed one for aerobar positioning on the other bike...

I just noticed we are all wearing Oakley Jawbreakers
But only one of you is smiling! :D

How's everyone's weekends plans looking? Committed myself to taking the little one swimming tomorrow morning as thought I had to skip the club ride due to coming in to work briefly... Now I'm not needed in work. Dammit!

Anyone used Biemme Guran shorts? Endurance clubmate recommended them. Several talks recently as the new WBR club kit is coming from Nopinz. Several guys saying the shorts are better than Rapha?! I'm not convinced and for the price I think I'd rather ride Rapha Core (my current favourite)...

Nopinz Pads are as good as my Rapha easily! I've not done the all day riding in a skin suit obviously, but 2 hours of CX is enough to put them through their paces and I came out with no issues/discomfort.

Question about power meters don't solely directed at you Dan but why do you have them? I'm struggling to understand - I'm looking for an excuse so I can justify buying one:p

It gives you an accurate & absolute measure of 'total work done' enabling you to effectively periodise your training, monitor improvements and predict & evaluate form for key events or periods.

Furthermore assistance for pacing rides, TT's or long climbs is invaluable.

anyone doing the Dragon Ride next weekend? I'm signed up for the 230km distance, will probably be about 25kph avg over that distance

I assumed that Counterveil would just be marketing nonsense. It may well actually be as there's (to my knowledge) no Bianchi bikes that have a version with and without it. I can say that the XR3 despite being a 'race bike' in terms of geometry is an incredibly smooth ride. It's somehow feels stiffer yet more comfortable than my Boardman. It's pure witchcraft.

Picked up some potentially nice ride upgrades this week at decent prices to try for the first time, £6 Vittoria latex tubes from CRC and ~£25.20 28mm GP4000 S2 from Halfords with BC discount.

Everyone else will be puncture-safe in the South Downs this weekend, I will be taking several for the team. ;)

For me, a large part of my interest in cycling is monitoring performance through data. My own and others, I just find that side of it really interesting! So getting a PWM for me was natural evolution of that. Now I've ridden with one and I use it quite a bit for pacing and climbing I'm not sure how I'd ride without it! :D

Hmmm, maybe my snobby sit bones need to take note! ;)

Still, finding it hard to ship £78 on shorts from an 'unknown' brand. The jerseys are £66 too! And I'd need matching socks... And arm warmers etc etc :o

Good luck!

Had heard it's pretty special... Maybe one day! :o

You should always caveat stuff like this with "....unless things change" - thus allowing you to revert back to plan A if something changes. Now you're stuck on plan b because you lack the necessary smarts. :p

To answer the question - I'm racing tonight, 12 lap points race, 10 lap scratch, 30 lap endurance. Tomorrow is a chill out day, Sunday I'm taking my eldest daughter to Derby velodrome - not riding it myself, it's just a kids session but I'm interested to mill around the place.

Well I'm the Rapha King as you know, so you can trust me! :D

I wouldn't say nopinz are unknown now, they're used in the pro peloton for a surprising amount of kit. I've no idea on our club kit shop, but have got quite significant discount in the past as my mate grew up and raced with the owner. Developed for cyclists by a cyclist!

The truth hurts! I have much to learn! ;)

To be fair with the thigh recovery, recovery from slight illness and now toothache I may not be able to squeeze in a ride all weekend. Only 'spare time' coincides with forecasted rain! :(

Haha yeah, self proclaimed king! I know someone with more kit! :p

I was fully aware of nopinz in regards to their aero stuff - tripsuits etc, but not the rest of their kit.

I know a guy sponsored by them, maybe he can get me a discount! ;)

Is it yourself that has a XR3 @FishFluff? I thought I remembered somebody on here getting a XR3 or XR4.

My nopinz suit seems decent, it’s a little sweaty on the back with the plastic for the number but the weather recently won’t have helped with that. I think the legs are short in the shorts but I am 189cm and would normally get the extra length leg if offered.

Pinning numbers on jerseys does spoil them quite quickly so I’m considering it an investment ;)

Maybe the shorts fashion will make a come back and I’m actually ahead of the game...

Leg shavers unite...

Disposable, decent razor, chemicals or wax?

I caved in, hacked the hair off my pins a few weeks ago back in 'Nam... Kinda feel like a cave man amongst these tanned and shaven triathletes :D

Now I can't let it grow back, every couple of days I'm whipping it all off again. Is that it? Life long commitment to my own legs turning me on? :o
