Road Cycling

just wnt to add that the drive train in Orbea Gain, bianchi Aria, Colango E64, Wilier Cento1 HY and the Ribble are what the designer called "good enough", so it's not like other e-bike where it will try to add 400W to your power and break every PB; it's more like adding small amount of power so it makes your climb just that bit easier to keep up with your friends. I.e. battery and motor are substanitally smaller than other e-bikes like Pinarello Nytro, Bianchi E-impulse etc. And one of the coolest feature i think is the extendable battery that sits in the bottle cage. For other E-bikes, the spare battery does require a backpack, where as this one, you can put it in a third bottle cage, say, behind the saddle. and you can change it in seconds. one down side is that because the battery is no removable, so you can take it on the plane (as far as i know).

I expect I'll get roundly mocked for this, but does anyone know of a decent video to help me work on my cornering skills? My club had a session on a crit circuit last night and although I was fine keeping up with everyone on the straights/sweeping corners, I sucked at tight bends. I'd either go in too slow and then have to sprint back on, or I'd go in at the same speed as the bunch but then run hilariously wide :/

Agreed, they're all e-assist rather than complete motorised e-bikes. Guess that's how they can integrate the far smaller batteries into the frames. I hadn't seen that Colnago before, but look at that and the Wilier. Without the button on the top tube and the larger rear hub you would be totally unaware. Very pretty bikes. The Wilier is even marketed as 'only' 12kg! My Diverge is near that weight (11.6kg) without a motor! :o

So the Gain has got a removeable battery? Don't think the others do. The Gain had skipped straight past me, really hadn't seen it until it as mentioned in here. But damn it's ugly on the Orbea website lol ;)

Still can do some awesome stuff with e-assist. My mate has the MTB/DH/Fattbike Specialized Turbo Kenevo and it is an absolute monster. So is he to be fair, he only rediscovered riding the last couple of years but every ride at every park he visits now is a haul of segments & KOM's. 6h rides at BPW = machine! :o

A Diverge which was ~£1,300. Which is of course absolutely fine for 20 miles. She just doesn't want to put the effort in.
Which Diverge and what tyres? My comp carbon did feel a bit of a slouch with the original Roubaix Pro tyres and rims, sticking the (only 150-200g) lighter Zipp 30 course and some GP4ksii on there made it much faster. There's cheaper, lighter and faster wheelsets than the Zipps too.

Hmm what do people think to the Canyon Grail? Gimmick? Useful extra bar for hanging stuff on?

I've got one. Not done a huge amount of miles on it yet though.
Initial impressions are: it's a bit of a gimmick but it does work. Using the tops is more comfortable with the flex bar but it's kind of the opposite to how most people ride. On rougher stuff or technical descents, where you'd want more comfort, you hold onto the drops or hoods. On smoother roads or climbs, where you dont get as much vibration anyway, you hold the tops and it does work well at reducing road buzz.
It's a nice bike to ride and the funny handlebar doesn't add any negatives so I'd recommend it. If it cost more than any other gravel bike the same spec, it wouldn't be worth paying extra for the bar but it's not (if anything, it's one of the cheaper gravel bikes around) so it seems to me like a great choice so far.

Hmm interesting. I don't need a gravel bike as such, but I'm after a bike for a 20 mile commute that will go over some rough/crap terrain, so wondered about it.

Since the Endurace can take up to 35mm tyres, I am currently leaning towards one of those mind you.

What a day!! 18c in the car at 2pm.went out I. Shorts and short sleeve jersey with arm warmers and the arm warmers came off within 20 mins and stayed off! Let's have some more of this!

Not shaved my legs since last tt some 7 weeks ago forgot what it's like to ride with hairy legs don't think I've let them go so long for a good few heads now.

Tt tomorrow, will enjoy not having to wear base layers!

So ive got a pair of ceramic speed jockey wheels (came with my RD) and im curious how I service them. The CS website shows how to and it looks easy enough but they use a CS pulley wheel oil, link below.
https://www.ceramicspeed.com/en/cyc...s/ceramicspeed-oil-for-pulley-wheel-bearings/

Is there a off the shelf item....something regularly found in a LBS that I could use instead? The delivery from CS is 15 euro's.

SRAM ceramic bearing grease (£9 for 10ml) is just repackaged SKF LGHP2 (£17 for 420ml), seems to work well.

Got Conti competition for my disc wheel. Super tight getting it on the rim, let’s hope it stretches a bit!

Do the new Vittoria Corsas have the latex on the base tape same as the Evo CX used to? I scraped mine off and they stuck down much better for it.

I only did ~30km on zwift on Saturday after being away. Got the legs working, then did 2 hours on the road and ruined myself on Sunday. Nobody likes a headwind home!

Haha, so you need a Diverge...? ;)

To be fair I ride mine as a road bike, but the 2016 range came with road gearing, it's the newer 'futureshock' variants which have generally come with off road 1X groupsets and more gravel orientated tyres. If tyre clearance is your main requirement then the Endurace is pretty hard to beat. Most of Spesh and Giant's ranges don't have that clearance without a compromise in gearing (designed primarily for off-road). According to what I've read before my Diverge Comp Carbon 2016 can take a 35mm at the front, but only a 32mm at the rear. The alloy ones only being able to fit 32's. I've actually got 32's fitted under guards and there's lots of clearance at the front, things only getting a little tighter at the sides of the chainstays and bb sides. All due to width. That experience is obviously pretty useless if you're not fitting guards to a winter/all weather commuter... (silly if you don't!) ;)

It was glorious here too - totally gutted I was stuck at home! Did manage a Zwift session in the evening though. Although too short on time for any races. Annoyingly!

Thought this might be of interest to those who don't get TP emails.
Really really interesting, thanks for sharing! The man. The machine!

One for @platypus ;)

Everyone needs a Diverge in their life. Although to be fair this is the only time I've seen Sagan ride one. He rides a (one-off) rim brake Roubaix for Paris-Roubaix/Flanders

In theory that video is from 2016-17 (at a guess - That's a 2018 year model Diverge). Crazy to see how he's still got so many of his off road skills, nevermind the confidence. Some of those slides! :o

Hmm so my garmin edge 500 hrs didn’t work with the clock change.

Displayed fine at the time and captured my ride: plugged into computer just now and displayed working and crashed itself.

Turn it off/on and it shows all the activities stored in the device with today’s date but doesn’t have yesterday’s.

No fit file, nothing in history :(

I guess it’s lost forever now...?

Saddle fit chaps, I'm sure I've messed mine up, is it supposed to be level, I got a new specialized power fit late last year at the correct width but this year it's just so painful after ten miles, put a level on it tonight and it's tipping forward quite considerably.

It's been more pronounced this year as I've got a tacx so spent hours in the saddle without break.

So question is saddle level with level bike?

Level with level ground. Top tubes are often sloping so you don't necessarily want it level with the top tube. I'd try level with the ground first. Some do find a slight tilt forwards is good.

Without a file there I think so mate... Could try recovery software on it but no idea what can read the garmin filesystem. Do the filenames have the date as part of the filename? Clock change might have cocked up the actual file date, but the name might be correct? Look for something with a bizarre date like 1970 or something.

As Lethal said, but measure the 'middle' of the saddle where you're sitting to determine that's level, like from the centre to the nose. The Power does have quite a level 'seat' but does flare up a little at the back. As mentioned you could dip the nose but only slightly. I ride a Power on my turbo bike and have it dipped one 'notch' on my saddle clamp. It's possibly slightly too much but I find it ideal after moving the saddle back a few mm from my previous position. I do have aerobars fitted and find it comfortable sat forward on them, almost more so than sitting up straight (like I used to do a lot on the old saddle, but hardly ever do when out on the road).

I'm currently looking for another Power for my outside bike. Superb saddle! Just damn expensive! :o

Use a level rather than trying to do it by eye. Then again I can't even hang a clock straight... ;) :D

My edge500 does this sometimes. I don't know what it's doing when it says "working" but it must be editing each of the activity files for some reason because they all show up with modified date of the time it did it. It'll lose the current ride when it does this but all the old rides are fine (and the editing doesn't seem to change them).
I just make sure to hold the reset button to clear the current ride when I finish so that it doesn't get lost if this happens.

To be honest I do everything by eye... probably my bars aren't straight with the front wheel and my saddle is probably pointing to one side and slightly down :D

The one that annoys me the most is shifters looking like they aren't straight. Tried a lot of methods but it never looks quite right. Perhaps my bars are bent!

I'll tip it forward later going by all the helpful advice the rear end of this seat sits higher any way. Thanks for the help
