Good luck! Where is it? Judging by the amount of 'weather' this week most parts of the UK you'll need your proper mud setup!

Diag tool worth getting? Was thinking to snag one on the 'bay whenever I spot one cheap, but really at the point of questioning 'why' I need one - at least until I'm riding outside and things get a bit more abuse. Have 'tested' all my components but without the WU111 Wireless unit very much hit the 'limit' to what I can do with them. Probably more useful to get the WU111?! At least everything I has plugs in and works! No idea on firmware versions or such. Had one groupset on my Zwift setup a couple of months now, really enjoying it and it's become 'normal' on there... I really thought it would take some getting used to for some reason!? Still not checking the battery level very often, which will need to get more of a habit when riding outside...

As for what a Shimano ProWheel is, I do recall when I had a boxed road crankset it said something like 'Chainwheel' on it rather than crankset or chainrings, so guess they're both just translations to what Shimano call them in Japanese! ;)

Westmorland County Showground, Cumbria! Long old way away. Need to shift this cold that's going around otherwise i'll be getting 1 or 2 laps in. Although smashed my hand at the weekend into a post (check strava) which also needs to calm itself down as it's quite big currently...

Diag box has come in useful on many occasion.

You may have the same 'problem' - still riding your Cube? It's an Attain isn't it? It does everything well, so is it just the tyre clearance options you're looking for on a new frame to give you more options, could you go down to 650B wheels to do what you need on it? I can't recall if you had an endurance bike which you took bikepacking, or just used the Cube. I guess what I'm trying to say is, just consider what you're looking at might even end up replacing your Cube. So make sure you're happy with that!
Yeah - my intention is it likely replaces the Cube. Cube likely ends up on turbo or for particularly climby fast rides in Summer. I've got a Giant Propel still for flattish fun.

Cube barely even fits the stock 25mm let alone anything bigger. I think 32mm a little on the low side but option for ~35mm would be nice. Fairlight Strael may even be an option. It looks comparable to the Sonder Colibri.
I've not had to undo any on a Shimano '4 arm' crankset yet. Would expect they're all like that?! Also it not too regular occurrence to change so just plumb for the cost when needed changing rings? I've yet to have one come loose and need tightening. The previous more traditional ones on 5 arms which tighten both sides with that peg thing didn't break, but then they also wouldn't screw tight enough!
Yeah I changed small ring. Luckily I've managed to buy big rings on discount every single time so not quite swapped a chainset yet. That crankset has done near enough 65k miles. Maybe 3 big rings and on it's 3rd small ring now. I've got a spare 105 52/36 chainset though that I bought (on discount) again in case I didn't find cheap chainrings. Maybe it'll end up on new bike though for off-road stuff 52/36 is likely too much...

36 ain't great as a small ring. I used to run a 38 oval with a 32 and it was pretty tough going and that was on the Inflite which is one of the lighter cx offerings 6.5kg or so from memory. Fine on the flat but winter and south downs were a killer on the knees. I do like the 30 of the boardman 9.0, don't ever need the top of the cassette but doesn't ever feel too small and spinny.

Going round in circles trying to decide on a new bike - it's doing my head in, I'm not normally this indecisive

In the mix we currently have:

  • Bianchi Impulso Allroad Disc 11 speed at 2200 Euros
  • Bianchi Via Nirone Allroad Disc at 10 speed at 1700 Euros
  • Canyone Inflite SL6 at 2000 Euros and tbh this one is dropping down the list as time goes on
  • Rose Pro SL Disc at 1700 Euros which is the curveball of the group as it's less more road and less off road I suppose (I would put 32 mm gravel/mix tyres on it)

We have a half decent forest surrounding Vienna and my old Felt F95 just cannot do it, and I'm missing that this winter.

I think in my heart it's Bianchi v Bianchi, and asking myself if I will notice the 500 Euro price difference between the Impulso and the Via Nirone.
The Rose with it's beautifully formed frame and enclosed cockpit is visually appealing but the colour leaves me cold and I just don't think it will feel as "special" as owning a Bianchi (always wanted one but never got round to it)

Yeah - max 50/34 I think.

TIL Tredz also sell Boardman.. and do Cycle Scheme - owned by Halfords I guess!

They don't have the ADV 9 at the moment but perhaps because it's out of stock. I'll have to enquire.

Kinda shame no ability to add rack but perhaps I should just get a tailfin.

Just ordered a 46/30 chainring for my bike because... I'm doing the Fred Whitton this year.. GULP! I am currently down to 106KG from 119KG, and Hope to be low 90s before the event but I really need more climbing gears to help keep the cadence up and not smoke the legs! Also ordered another pair of the Lake shoes I had fitted a couple years back.. they are amazing!

Anyone an expert on Di2? Paging @Jonny ///M probably :D

Racing yesterday and my grx rear derailleur wouldn't go into top 2 gears, but was working on rest of cassette. Got home last night and appears to have stopped moving whatsoever. It makes some noise like it wants to shift or microshift but isn't moving. Fixable or not? Is there any difference between the 815 or 817 apart from the cage?
Not sure if you got it sorted yet. Been busy driving trucks about and less biking. I'm an expert in electric pallet trucks and tachographs now.

The last 11 speed I had in that did this was just needing the mechanical pivots cleaned/oiled and worked back and forth until they moved freely.

Has it on a 12 speed on a new bike where it wouldn't move into top two cogs. On etube using the pce2 it runs through the gears and says I'm in 9th gear, am I really? , we can then tell the mech you are in 5th gear and reset the position if you like. I couldn't get it to do it but Madison managed to do it and send it back to us.

815 is max 34t and 817 is max 42t low sprockets.

Oh dear, taken the diesel metaphor to new levels. I ordered a new one as heading up to national champs tomorrow, and need to get the old one on the diag when i find my unit.... I've put it in safe place and no idea where that is now...Will give it a proper clean up and hope it can get going agian.

Yeah, got all that will look next week when I'm back home. Hopefully as you say it just needs cleaning up and loosening.

Having had a month or so out with a football injury i was happy to get back out today. I am likely disliked by most roadies but i bought some crankbrother flat pedals and using my old five tens on my road bike. I know i would have eventually got used to spd-sl's but the convenience of having normal pedals is great. Just one less thing to think about and i can get off for a wonder about of the bike.

I wear a gilet when out over my biking jacket as i need a pocket for my phone, keys and card. Never even thought when buying a jacket it would have no pockets. The gilet i use is a golfing one so going to grab a cycling one.

Been out two weeks in a row on Friday after work, two completely random routes and both happened to be 17 miles something which was interesting.

What's everyones cleaning routine for post ride?

The last couple of weekends it's been so wet I literally just threw a bucket of water over it and everything came straight off. Usually it's a bucket of water wtih a little mucoff in and brush the bike down.

I had planned a shortish 46 miler for today, but I'm currently reconsidering. Given how wet I got last weekend, the forecast is for the heavens to open around 10am again and I'm wondering if I just do an indoor workout instead. Tomorrow looks colder, but dryer, so will head out with my friends, but maybe I'll have an easier day today.

Thats what i did yesterday and just kinda shuck it around to get the bits of water off it. Do you find you have to regrease any thing?

Ouch! Hope the hand continues to heal and is feeling well enough to ride. Video was amazing! Thanks for the entertainment! Guess the hand is from hitting the barrier after your slide?! Still amazes me your club skinsuit has so much white on it! Must be a b1tch to clean! ;)

Ahhh, I'd forgotten about the Propel. Maybe part of it could be how you 'like' the Giant, as the Defy is looking pretty damn good for the money, but Giant's always do.

Tech me how to find chainrings on discount obiwan! ;)

Chain needs swapping on mine. Sounding very rough and easily over the 0.75 on the chain checker last time I looked (mid December...) Was holding off until the worst of the winter road salt was over (as I'm barely riding outside) but the next week looks grim so just going to do it. Have been thinking hold off for nice weather, then do chainrings/cranks at the same time (not got replacements yet), while also thinking switch to Di2 as well so the whole groupset is 'new' together.

Then again the money I've 'saved' so far (doing things so piecemeal) just plumb the £200 for a R8000 crankset when the actual time comes and stop being a tight welshman!;)

Without really knowing what you ride, your 'history' and what you're looking to do - apart from the comment about forest riding above - really hard to judge.

But they're all much of a much-ness price wise looking at that, so don't use price to judge. I think you're after comfort (?) endurance with some slight off road capability. The Inflite is a CX bike so likely not that comfortable (?). Your heart is saying Bianchi so really think even if the Rose was more 'sensible' you'd be thinking 'what if' if you got it. Don't really know Bianchi's range, to really know those models, but rough google shows the Impulso as a carbon frame and some of the Nirone as alloy? Both are endurance bikes and 'allroad' means they'll do up to 35mm tyres (so you can likely fit 32's and guards if that is your thing). What groupsets are the 11 speed and 10 speed? At a guess 105 vs Tiagra/Sora. So if the €500 difference is for 105 and Carbon over Sora and Alloy then easy to say go the Impulso, as both should be solid upgrades worth it when buying at that value. If both frames are carbon/alloy then really you're choosing between groupsets. At that value on the initial cost I'd be very tempted by 11 speed, although modern Tiagra/Sora are still great groupsets.

Check the Rose's clearance for the tyres you want to use/fit, they're not known for being great.

Bit of a guess on which years models and groupsets (went for older thinking you looking at deals)...

Bianchi geometries are the same: https://bikeinsights.com/compare?geometries=62c87ce32ea0f9001d5e3ba9,5f46417e61f49e001736a48c,

Haha awesome, change in job then? What you hauling? Be careful with that tail lift! Our guys are always smacking them and needing services. Seem to be slowly moving the fleet away from DAF too!

That's a really good weight loss - top man :)

Agreed, massive loss but with 4 months until the FW focus on power and stamina training rather than weight loss. Trimming weight 'too fast' with that as your focus, you can easily lose both while focused on weight. You'll find the weight continues to fall off with some consistent training, volume of riding and only minor changes in habit (big one for me was not snacking on chrisps, changing to dried fruit & nuts!).

I trimmed from my highest of 98.5kg - I was heavier before for several years, only really started weighing myself when cycling more. Easily got down to 80-85kg just focussing on consistency and throwing myself at climbs, my focus being on getting up them and maintaining any small gains. While just social club riding and local sportives. Since riding 'enough' to enjoy myself and getting my recoveries better, I've not even tried to lose weight, my focus being on consistency the last few years. When riding more I would hover around 75kg in the summer and 80kg in the winter. One summer I dug myself into a hole and down to 72kg. Found it hard to recover well and just didn't feel or look 'healthy'. Since getting into Zwift I've tended to stay around 77-79kg and fluxuate less. I continued to lose 'size' (I tell myself trading fat for muscle). The last couple of years getting my riding consistency along with recovering properly has trimmed 1-2kg, but given me even more stamina and 'depth'.

Yep slow and steady for me, I’ve been down to the high 80s in the past, I’m fairly strong / muscular so just focused on getting fat off while retaining as muscle as possible (read power).

Currently doing TrainerRoad, Low Vol SweetSpot base, into SweetSpot build while adding additional z2 work.

Last week was 2 x 60 minute SweetSpot workouts, 1 x 90 minute threshold workout (it’s not 90 mins of threshold work, long z2 lead in and lead out) and added a 90 z2 workout on the trainer too.
Plan is to add easy outside time on the Saturday starting with an hour this week, then adding 30-60 minutes per week until I’m getting to 4-5 hours of z2 outside. If the weather (being Scotland) is bad, I’ll do lesser z2 hours on the trainer
