Road Cycling

You might as well buy a spare phone and use that, for that price.
Maybe you're just joking, but no, I would rather have a cycle computer than a phone.

I guess it's a little like phone price increases. I think I can remember saying a few years back that I would never pay more than £600 for a phone... and I guess I kind of haven't, due to trade-ins and such, but my current phone is four figures new. I don't think I would have considered spending over £300 on a bike computer before, but my most recent one was £450. Maybe there's a time I will spend £700 on one and not blink.

Yeah I wouldn’t want to mount a phone either.
I was more pointing out that it’s got to that price point.

Garmin have been pushing their pricing for years. Have a look at their high end watches and they are nuts.

DC Rainmaker says it's nice to look at but failing on basic navigation, ANT+ connectivity and screen brightness despite a huge price increase.

Yeah it’s got some little adjustments but coros has been known to be very good with software updates. I’ll put it this way, the screen problems I’m 50:50 on, I think it’ll be software not reacting quick enough to light changes. The oled screens to me make no sense on the new devices and garmins with MIP displays are the best “all around” in my opinion, my 1040 is good no matter the conditions.

In general, I think garmin pretty much did everything a computer needs to do in a 1040. That makes the 1060 even less attractive at the price it’s at.

Went out for a nice gentle ride on Sunday when the weather was lovely. Windy but lovely. Some proper gusts at time which give you a few squeeky bum moments but because we were on country lanes with hedges etc most of the time it was fine most of the time.

Got back into Tunbridge wells at the end of the ride and the win was blowing directly at us and swirling which was fun. Blowing you left and right really strongly moment to moment.

Got back and looked at the strava activity and got a 9th place on a segment. Couldn't think where that would be as we literally didn't put in any work at any point on the ride. Turns out it was a segment I had done a fair few times and was chilling on. I do remember thinking "ooh my legs feel good here" as I was moving quickly and not putting in that much work but just assumed a few hours of easy riding had left me nicely warmed up and fresh.

Nah, 180w vs 220w average on another go on the segment in the past and I took 30s off my best time. Segment was about 3:30 long. Crazy what a tailwind can do. Said to my mate after the ride that we should have gone out KOM hunting!

First ride this morning in as long as I can remember as needed to head to Alicante for the car, so ~45km

Got down the lane and realised the AXS battery was dead from having been sat for so long and so I was stuck in far too easy a gear. My average power was around 90w as I just couldn’t put power down. Probably something like a 40-42 combination, but I needed the car so didn’t have a choice!

Its OK, its SRAM so you can just put another battery in right? Right? :p

Well yeah. Unless you can’t find the spare because it’s all on boxes following a house move!

This was the one good thing about having 2x. The FD battery was generally charged so you could swap and still keep a decent gear range.

I can't remember if I already mentioned, but I'd noticed some delamination on my Hammerhead Karoo and then also saw someone on Reddit mention the same thing.

I contacted support and they said 'Send it back, we'll replace it' even though it was out of warranty, which I think is pretty good. But, I was off to Spain, so asked if I could do it after.

Spain went fine, I went for a ride on Sunday though and after only about 5k...

Erm... it was still beeping away, so I took it off and put it in a back pocket, in case of rain and didn't touch anything. At the end of the ride, I could remember the sequence of button presses to end the ride, and it synced as normal. I've just now sent it back

I contacted support with the postage details (they paid), and they've ordered me a new one already. So, whilst it's not great that after 2½ years the screen fell off, it's been pretty good customer service! Maybe I'll even have the replacement in time for the weekend's rides.

I've not been having a good time with technology attached to my bike. The bolt in my GoPro mount got rounded off. I've been drilling and cutting and I think I've almost freed the GoPro, but now need to replace the mount. The pack on Specialized's website is almost £50. I can get it cheaper at around £20 I think, but I thought I would ask on the off chance, does anyone have the circled mount going spare?

Thanks.
