Road to recovery

I seem to have lost quite a bit. Before this I weighed in at 71kg innthe gym with shorts, shirt and runners.
Now after training and over 1litre of water and my post training whey, ~250ml.
I weighed in at ~68.5 on the scales.

Doing alright then!

Also looks like skipping might out for a while as well. I had no problems since physio on money and 10 minutes of skipping and my back feels tender and I get some bouts of sciatica here and there. :(

I guess the minor compression/impact is aggrivating it slightly. Could you get away with rowing at all? if you keep your spine neutral?

I also need to get some carbs for my CBL meals.

It'll cheer you up!

I've actually been told by several people that I look like I've lost weight. So that visible at least. Got told by one that I finally lost my double chin. :(

I haven't tried rowing, I was advised against it though.

Also there's not a minor compressing in the spine, just mostly a missing disc and damaged nerve. Apparently mechanically the virtebrae kinda grat off each other in squats an on impact. :/

sweet pots will be fine if your not using them as a staple of your carb intake.

A nice comparison for you to get the same amount of carbs from sweet pots as you get from white rice is as follows:

150g raw weight white rice = 121g carbs
600g raw weight sweet pots = 127g carbs

Also pots are very starchy and filling as well. You might get on fine with them, but if i have pots at the start of my backload i feel bloated and over full for the rest of the evening, and i still have loads to fit in!

What did your surgery entail?

Removed the majority of my l3-l4 disc, which was crushed and they also found a chip of bone that needed to be removed from my sciatic nerve. After which they shaved off some more bone to try and prevent the nerve from constantly being grated against or accidentally crushed by the virtebrae.

What are sweet pots? Also how many carbs do you lads think I need for my CBL feeding session?

Ahh right, I'll probably just have them occasionally and in a small quanitity then. I think white rice and dextrose (PWO) will be the staple to be honest. Battenburg is pretty dense carb wise.

Starting to salivate.

Pretty major then.

So what have the replaced the discs they moved/ground with?

Sweet potatoes, looks like you'd have to eat them by the kilo to get a decent amount of carbs.

Syla suggested 300grams to me, depending on how much I continute to loose I may adjust this. You can always start high and taper down if you wish. Was reading a thread over on seriouslyhardcore and a couple of people found that weightloss was greater when loading on 6-800g!

I think seeing how you feel, look & perform will be the best indicator or whether it needs to go +/-.

I started out hitting 250 but it wasnt enough, so went for 300g and now i hit between 300-350g for my backloads. I am not fused if i go over, but i make sure i get 300 minimum.
I am putting on weight again which is my aim so if your aims are to lean out you might want to pay closer attention to what your eating for your backloads, and the amounts you eat as well.

Cook it like English people do (boil it until it's a gelatinous mess and tip the water out) then absolutely - the reason the discarded water is cloudy is because of all the starchy carby goodness...

Steam it and you're good. Steam it the Iranian way with butter and it's even better. :D

As far as I know Benny they never gave me a replacement disc. I just got the crushed bit removed and that was it. So whatever part of the disc is left they probably thought that would allow me to lead a "normal" life.

I feel like I need to get loads of doughnuts for my first CBL meal. I'm no good at this type of food so I'll have to see what's out there :)

yeah but when its cooked, its cooked weight is including water! my 150g weighs out at around 600g

*****?

Having just plotted a CBL feast I can't touch 300g carbs without hitting around 3500/4000 calories total for the day.

calories/carbs

2 scoops dextrose = 360/86
150g rice = 525/112.5
2 scoops ice cream = 220/30
1 Turnover = 315/35
1/4 batternburg = 215/35
1/4 Pizza = 380/45

Allow a margin of error for those figures but thats approx 344grams of carbs and 2000 aditional calories, plus the 2000 over the rest of the day and thats 4000 calories :/ which would average 3000 a day I guess.

If I binned the pizza & ice cream and ate a whole batternburg () I'd drop slightly.

Checking your log Syla and cornflakes look like a good shout as they're pretty carb dense, high GI & lower calorie.

Edit: Fuark! @ dem banana carbs bro!

haha dont go with cornflakes, the bros will ruin your life!!

as for macro portioning for the low carb/high carb parts of the day for me are as follows on backloads

low protein/carbs/fats/cals:

80g/3.4g/50.5g/930 cals

high carb/backload portion

140g/323g/48g/2265 cals

so daily cals on my backload days are 3.2k not including extras, but i regularly throw in a creme egg, or choclate treat at the moment just because i can :)

you will cause a riot man!

Not so much for the protocol or principles but just meal/diet examples and any other points that need clarifying further, even if it's just links to other articles, lists of recommend CBL foods etc?

Apologies to Nightmare for derailing his journal.
