Road Tripping in the USA!

I only hate it because I didn't think of it first, renting a £75 Tomtom for £25 is like paying Hertz $10,000 to rent the Mustang for 2 weeks :D

Haha, you are staying at the Ramada in Bishop too? Don't expect it to be great but as I guess you have found there isn't a lot of choice there.

Fairly sure it was the Best Western in Modesto I stayed too, it was a two floor motel type place.

None of those. Go via Pahrump, into Death Valley, stop off at Dante's View, Badwater Basin, then go out via Furnace Creak which should have you picking up the lower of the three routes you have there.

Sounds like a bit of a shame that your padding is there, I think I'd have padded the trip out somewhere else - extra nights in a posh hotel in Vegas whilst its cheap perhaps.

Hmmm, not sure I'd have done that as you'll be wanting to maximise time in Death Valley not on the highway the other side of Death Valley but I guess 45 minutes isn't too bad. Remember, even Bishop isn't in Death Valley, its several hours out of it.

I just let Google take me the quickest route to the top of the GGB - Sausalito is a nice little place for a spot of lunch.

Nice Pics Peter. Anyone ever been to Glacier National park? I'm flying to LA on the 22nd and I have 2 weeks to drive to death valley, Vegas, Bryce Canyon, Yellowstone then Glacier Natl park. Would it be worth it?

I did it last year and it was absolutely stunning - my favorite National Park for sure.

However it's MILES from LA - if you've only got 2 weeks you really wont get that far up without rushing the trip and spending far too long in the car. I did it on a road trip from Seattle.

I don't think I paid a single toll in that end of the country? Other than Seven Mile Drive. There are not very many of them, bridges excepted.

500 quid return to Seattle is exceptional.

We went up to Vancouver, across the Rockies to Banff then down into Montana and the incredible Glacier National Park then over to Oregon.

My favourite trip but most of the good bits will be closed duE to snow tim April. The road through glacier park is open only 4 months a year.

Luxury for 2 weeks is 500 pounds. Full size is 300.

Can't see how its worth nearly twice the price.

500 isn't twice 300.

I think it's well worth it (though not for a Volvo though they are not actually classified luxury anyway) as you get something actually decent for not a huge amount more. A full size reservation could get you an old model Impala for example, it's still sold to rental fleets and the new model is a Premium not a full size. Dire cars.

The ATS I have is fast, frugal, very refined, well equipped, comfortable and great to drive. As good if not better than a 3 Series.

It's a pleasure to do several thousand mile road trip in.

Fairly good, it's the least good Cadillac so pretty good, I have now had one twice in a row.

If you don't see one, ask. They can make them appear from the National lot or the return area.

Are you insane? You turned down a Camaro for a Mustang!?

Firstly the Camaro is cooler and secondly you can drive your own mustang here, I wouldn't have picked a 5 Series for example :-P

You know me, the whole trip was about being in a Mustang. If I was doing the trip again, I wouldn't be quite as bothered - but I had to do it in a Mustang.

I don't actually know anything about the Camaro, nor am I interested in the car at all (where I am massively about the Mustang). The 2014 Mustang is a lot different to mine, so it would be like hiring an F10 when you still had your e39.

I guess the Camaro is quicker and better?

It's nothing like that at all. It would have been like hiring a face lift version because that's all it is, it's the same car as yours really despite cosmetic tinkering.

E39 to F10 was a change of two generations of car!
