Road Tripping in the USA!

Now that we're back on track...

Here are a couple of my snaps from June / July last year of West Coast + Maui + Oahu. Not all have cars but I'm sure they will be appreciated :)

Death valley with the better half:

On the road to Yosemite (if not already in it):

The stunning setting of Yosemite:

Maui view from condo balcony - worth every penny:

Oahu:

i'd rather stick with my one debit, one credit card, arrangement than have to apply for all kinds of different cards for different purposes. My bank charges quite a bit for ATM withdrawals therefore I find it easier to have cash. Hope that's OK.

Going to USA without a Halifax clarity card is mental imo.

Some nice pics! Going to Florida next week but will be going to California at some point in the future just for that scenery.

What company did you get your mustang from out of interest? we're hiring from Avis but have no real idea what im model/age im going to get.

All of the fleets are rammed with Mustangs these days (Or Camaros). They don't cost much and the customers love them so I guess there is little point ordering the junky Chrysler 200's now.

Does anyone have any recommendations for the Santa Barbara and Monterey areas? Also, anything else to do / places to go to near the PCH?

Thanks

The B&B places in Carmel are gorgeous, and its a lovely place to stay.

Hearst Castle which is just off the PCH is worth a visit.

Thanks for the suggestions. :)

I've gone with the Secret Garden Inn (Santa Barbara) which is more like a B&B, and the Carmel Lodge (2 nights) in Carmel.

Just the last night of the stay to book now.

Don't forget to pop to Laguna Seca for a look around, it's 20 minutes from Carmel.

In SB my parents recently stayed at the Mason Beach Inn in SB - nice little hotel close to the beach and wasn't too expensive so may be worth checking the rates for when you are planning to pass through - unfortunately Hotel Rich_L is closed this summer :p

Lovely little hotel, we stopped there last year. For 5 nights.

Between San Fran and LA I also recommend Pismo Beach. Tiny little town in comparison to most but a fantastic laid back atmosphere, amazing clam chowder at the Splash Cafe, a drive in theater nearby playing the latest movies and the ability to hire dune buggies / sand rails to go out on the dunes in. We stopped at the Seacrest which overlooks the sea and was reasonably priced.

Make sure you check the Dametra Cafe restaurant out in Carmel, really great food with some entertainment included :)

Please note, it's number 1 on tripadvisor in Carmel so expect it to be busy :)

Ok chaps, i know we're california-heavy in here but i thought i'd put this out there..

I'm headed to New Mexico for two weeks in September. I have a stepmum out there in Santa Fe i'll be visiting with my mrs. We're going to hire a car (either a convertible or 4x4) and doing a trip to Colorado for 5 or 6 nights. It seems like there's a boat load to see up there so i'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations? What to see? Where to stay? Hit all the little towns - Boulder, Vail, Aurora etc.. or just jump into Denver, stay there, and do little day trips out? Looking to get in some beautiful scenery but also a day in the city shopping and eating - we'll be there just after labour day after all.

Thanks chaps!

This is where I am going this year - so far my research has told me the following are unmissable:

Rocky Mountain National Park
Pikes Peak
San Juan Mountains
Great Sand Dunes National Park
Monument Valley

etc

Some mind blowing scenery, hopefully it's going to be excellent :)

Got back from my trip a couple of weeks ago, had a great time but I think we crammed a bit too much in

I'll update with pics etc soon once I've been through them all

I did purchase USA sat nav out there, so if anyone is going and wants to borrow it then let me know, email in trust
