Road Tripping in the USA!

Got back last week from driving 2600 miles round California in this.

TLDR; couldn't find the Grand Canyon :D:D

Interesting i was going to do the same drive but read about it being a tourist trap.

We did Vegas to Grand Canyon South Rim and back in one day. About 10 hours driving in total and the Sky walk thing was well posted on the route we took.

Used the built in Sat nav in the Camaro fine all trip too.

Every year I live in fear that I'll get the Volvo.

Every year I've dodged it but it appears this year, you got hit.

I'm so sorry :(

I didn't see anything wrong with it, it was cheap too as I booked a lower class car and that's all they had.

Problem is there are no cars on rental fleets apart from a corvette that are actually better than my car so I'll end up with a relatively ****** car no matter what I get

Please fully star out all swearing. Thank you.

Anyone ever flew with Aer Lingus?

Looking at going September next year and they do in-direct flights from NCL to LAX

Yes, I used them last year to fly to Boston, transferring in Dublin.

It was an excellent experience and I highly recommend them. US Pre Clearance in Dublin was particularly good.

Aer Lingus do not fly to LAX. The only direct flight to LAX from Dublin is with Ethiopian Airlines. The only West Coast destination Aer Lingus serve is San Francisco.

Don't book LAX flights until Aprilish at the earliest. It's a very competitive route, there is ALWAYS a sale on. I went in September and even as close as 3 weeks out from my departure dates there was a sale on and I could have got the same flights for £433 return..

Aer Fungus pre clearance is really good, I used to be a frequent flyer with them, good little airline for what is a small outfit.

Just make sure your Transatlantic flights are on the A330 product - they've been wet leasing 757's and a 767 to keep up with growth and the product on these planes isn't quite as good. It's not bad, but the A330 product was among the best economy flights I've ever had.

Brilliant thanks, they are currently the cheapest airline from both London and Newcastle.

That shows Aer Lingus operating both flights. And the flight numbers both correspond to Aer Lingus (EI)

Brilliant, it's a brand new route announcement and service begins in May 2016.

IMHO that'll be an excellent way to get to LAX from Newcastle, infact I'd go so far as to say its the best way. Keep an eye on the fares as I would expect to pay under £500 for that itinerary for September.

I would have flown with them myself had this flight operated last month. In the end I went with Air New Zealand who were also excellent. Air New Zealand often price lead this route so provided you can get to London for reasonable money it's likely to be the cheapest option (and IMHO the best Economy service Transatlantic from Heathrow).

When we flew with them to Boston the pre-clearance was excellent - we just walked straight off the plane in Boston to the airport exit.

I'm undecided on where to go next year but one of the options is a sort of West Coast and Hawaii type trip so I'll definitely try and use Aer Lingus if we do that.

Can't imagine I'd be able to get flights from London direct and get to London for cheaper than that.

If the Aer Lingus drop under £500 at any point, I'll book them up.

Thanks for the opinion on their service, appreciate it

EDIT: Ah only negative is the number of flights operating from NCL it appears. Just means I have to extend my trip for a few more day! Maybe that should be a positive!

That's almost cheap enough to just book it anyway. Its not going to drop to 350 quid or anything like that so the max you stand to lose is perhaps 70 quid.

You've got me desperately trying to build an itinerary with EI145 in it now :D

Haha do it!

Can't book at the moment as the return flight isn't up yet, although it's showing on SkyScanner, it's not on AerLingus website.

Tick!

What a trip, so so good and Flew Virgin Dreamliner, which was so nice!

LA>Vegas>Death Valley>Yosemite>SF>Highway 1 back down to LA = Win!

Damn I want to do a trip like that again. The last time I did it it was a bit rushed and we only got to spend a day or so in each place. That Challenger looks a lot nicer than the one my wife rented a few months ago. Was it like a big plastic Tonka toy on the inside?

They are horrible inside, they are essentially just good looking 2 door versions of the standard fullsize saloons.

Going to LA for 4 days early January and I need to rent a car to dive to Vegas. I'd like something like a Corvette, especially the new Stingray. Does anyone know where the best place to look would be?

Failing that where would I be able to rent a 5.0 new Mustang?

Hertz is your best bet for pre booked Corvette

If you want a Mustang ditch the V8 idea and book a standard convertible with Alamo. You'll get your pick of new shape mustang. Hertz will guarantee you a V8 but you will find the increase in cost nuts for just a different engine config.
