Also, the pump colours are the other way around in the US. Black = petrol, green = diesel. It'd be pretty difficult to start pumping the wrong one but just in case![]()
Yep, go in, hand over card / cash and tell them how much you want, go back out and fill up. Alternatively, you can give them a card and ask them to "leave it open" or "fill the tank" or anything similar, and they will authorise you for as much as you need.
If you overfill, I imagine it will stop.
If you underfill, you can go back in to get your change.
Also, many pumps have card machines that let you use a card without going inside, however most will ask for a US zip code and will often reject any that you put in. However, if you're using a Revolut card, they do suggest a zip code to use that will allow it to work (don't have it to hand).
Is that specific states? Never noticed that issue in Montana and Wyoming. Just used my Clarity at the pump and chose a preauthorised limit. No Zip code etc.

Do not worry about it a tank full for the jeep was $27, you have 3 grades to chose from we tried all of them and it did not make a noticeable difference so opted for the cheapest in the end. Price varied by area rather than location. Have a great time.
Most american cars are happy as punch on 89octane.
Only German and some higher end Japs prefer the 93.
What brand petrol stations do you opt for? Are service stations on I highways way more expensive for example? Like they are over here, I'd never fill up at a motorway service station.
Heading out tomorrow, and starting to think I've forgot some things!!
