Roadkill...

Avoided a bunny the other day, though hey its ok he went between the wheels....

que looking under the car later to see flopsy had been dragged by the head, all the way home :|

Did you backtrack to see if you had left a bloody trail like on GTA ? :D

Got out, and there was an icky trail of squished rabbit where the wheel had locked on it and dragged.

:p GTA stylee

But yeh, i hit a pigeon the other day. T'was 6.30am and those little ****ers just love sitting on the road at this time! It tried to fly off, but was too slow and made contact with the top of my windscreen - luckily no damage.

My absolute worst fear is a bloody deer running out in front of me whilst i'm doing 60/70mph. I live in the countryside and before i could drive my mum used to ferry me about and the amount of deer that used to run out was staggering (sorry :(). Luckily she's a very careful driver and always managed to stop for them.

I always find it amazing when my friends, who live in big cities, have never had a wild animal run into the road in front of them

What is it with you lot, animals are hardly difficult to avoid, I've never hit any and I drive country lanes every day. Scared to brake, I mean, really? I'm sure most people on here have ABS and stability control so it's hard to lose control even if you're trying.

As for the guy who speeds up and counts the bounces, WTF? Straight to the mental hospital for you, do not pass go, do not collect £200. That is deranged behaviour tbh.

I can see the point if there's a vehicle following closely behind but otherwise don't see a problem with braking hard as long as you can maintain control.

Had to slow down like crazy for a family of birds crossing the road today...no cars around, and thought i'd best slow down as a: the gf would kill me for getting blood all over her car, b: the roof was down and it could have gotten nasty :D

I did this as well.

Going round a roundabout and this rabbit starts to cross. I swerve onto the inside lane to avoid it so it speeds up just enough to suicide dive under my wheel. I did feel sorry for it, but then it was stupid enough to speed up :/

My mum hit a rabbit so hard the other day that it punch a fist sized hole in her front bumper :D

haha ive done this, swerved to miss bunny, just as it run off.

if i had kept straight, i would have missed it, but i ended up aimin for it... DOH!

i hate killing things, but i guess id rather kill a bunny than myself.

if he hits you though, thats totally his fault for tailgating....

I'm with you on this one.

Also have no sympathy for the people who speed down country lanes and hit animals, you're in their territory and how the hell are you meant to react for anything at excessive speed.

I would/have/do brake hard for animals, not my fault if the person behind is too close. I wouldn't swerve to avoid an animal, but I wouldn't swerve to avoid a human either ;)

i hit a rabbit once that ran into me so whos fault is that, it was on the other side of the road and avoided me by running into my lane.

natural selection of the rabbit kingdom

No way I would have braked hard seeing as I had a 4x4 up my rear for the past mile or so. I know who would have come off worse.

Dead bunny or Smashed car... not a hard split second decision IMO. If I had no one behind be I'd have slammed on the anchors tbh, I'm not that cruel :)

Most of the time, they are pretty easy to avoid, but as much as i like animals, sometimes its just not safe to do so all the time!

I have nailed my fair share of bunnies in the roads near where i live, and generally they have a habit of being spooked by headlights when i am close and try running out infront of me. There is just no time to do anything but grit teeth and hope they make it. My car is rather low though, and often even if the wheels miss them some part of the undertray will stove them in :(

I haven't hit anything like that yet, but hit someones cat which was upsetting being a cat owner myself at the time.

My daily drive to work now takes me through country lanes and I regularly see badgers and rabbits dead by the road :(

A few years back my old man was in Royal Liverpool University hospital undergoing surgery, which we'd been told he'd have a 50/50 chance of surviving. Anyway, the operation goes ahead and after 9 tortorous hours, we get the call that he's out of surgery and in recovery, and has asked for my mum to go in and see him (he'd rather me and my brother didn't see him in such a weakened state).

At around ten that evening I was upstairs on the PC in my room, when I heard a key in the door. Rushing out onto the landing and looking down the stairs, I'm greeted by the sight of my mother, distraught with tears welling up in her eyes. before she can speak a horrible sense of dread like nothing I've felt before took hold, chilling me to the bone and sending a wave of emotions through me that nearly made my knees go from under me. That's it I thought, he's dead, my old man whom I've loved ever since I opened my eyes dead, gone forever. Regaining my composure slightly, my voice trembling as I try to keep control I ask my mum what happened, and she replies in what was almost a hysterical wail:

"I've hit a rabbit on the way home!!!"

Daft cow, she nearly killed me.

I take out double figures most months in the summer. I have MILLIONS of them in the fields around my house and along my driveway. Splat, crunch, thump, duff, Whhhaaaaaa

Ditto, mad all around here, and little you do but simply run them down. Oh well, if i dont get them the neighbours will only shoot them instead :p

In the Focus I wasn't really too fussed about what I hit, but since getting my handbag mobil, I try to avoid hitting them if I can. I have a feeling they'll do more damage to my '2 than I will to them!

Famous last words :( Splattered a rabbit at about 80 - 90mph on my private runway this morning! Knew there'd be some kind of damage, so got in to work and had a look. Blood smeared all up the bumper, a little clip on part that came out and was being held on by the mesh (clipped back in place) and a crack along the front lip! Worst of all, I ran my finger accross the crack under the lip to see how bad it was, and encountered some fresh rabbit meat hanging on for dear life :( :p

Will a bit of filler/glue fix the crack in the front lip?

Clearly you don't spend too much time in the country. I can do 30mph and still run over rabbits though perhaps slightly fewer than at the normal NSL on the way home, if I was doing NSL+ lots i'd perhaps see your point as that would suggest I was going out of my way to try and get them, but when you're talking about a 12 mile stretch of rabbit infested roads and it's literally rabbit carnage some years. All i'm doing is saving them from getting eaten/shot/shagged by something else and ensuring the ones who learn the green cross code survive to bring up there furry offspring to respect roads :D

MoNkeE you may want to try plastic welding the back of the split for the best results but it depends on it's location and how good a repair you want.
