I wish this wasn't true. The original remains one of my favourite films.

Gary Oldman has just been signed up for it but I read that Joel Kinnaman (from The Killing) is playing Murphy.

Not looking forward to this. The original just cannot be improved upon. :(

i dunno.

i will still love the original so if they are going to do it at least get someone who loves the first one and will make it an 18. no PG12 BS!!!

i miss paul verhoven. great director

I don't see why people object to remakes. If it's terrible, it doesn't magically ruin the original. If it's awesome, it's awesome.

That is a good point. Whilst I don't like all these blasted remakes, you are right that they don't in any way alter the original.

If they put a different take then it could work, plus Gary Oldman is awesome :)

Another good point. If you are going to remake something, do a different take on it. Remaking the film shot for shot is totally pointless, just as the US version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was. A film for Americans who can't read subtitles. :p

I watched Robocop for the first time about two years ago... whilst I appreciate the story that drove it, let's just say I didn't think it had aged well.

At all.

A remake with Mr. Oldman, however, might just be awesome.

Isnt it going to be a bit of a reboot rather than a remake? Well not that there is a lot of difference. Its supposed to be a lot grittier and darker. Although the original was gory, nasty and uber violent this is supposed to be in a much darker way...

We will see i suppose..

Maybe it'll be a good excuse for the studio to release a remastered version of Robocop out on Blu-ray. The current release is shocking

I don't think it's meant to have aged well. It was an 80s classic. Same as The Terminator :) I still love it, because it hasn't aged well.

it'll be awful. clarence boddicker can only ever be played by one man.

True, but isn't he in Frasier or something nowadays? I saw him on some sitcom(?) a few months back and was all... "wtf? He's nice!"...

OK so Gary O isn't going to be in it? But who would he have played? The old man at OCP?

Well actually I'm sick of seeing "The Fog" etc listed on TV schedule and finding out that it's some terrible teeny bopper remake. :(

I heard its going to be based around them making him into robocop, more of what we didn't see in the original.
