Chaos 2 and Razer was my favourite. Never liked Hypnodisc tho. Before the toys came out I was desperate to have a robot wars toy I used cassete cases to make myself a robot wars.:o
 
I can recall that fight between Tornado and Razer too. I felt cheated watching it.

Tornado was one of my favourite robots along with Mortis and Hypnodisc, but I wanted Razor to win!

Shame it went out of favour, it was never any good once it left its bbc friday night slot.
 
Loved Hypodisk. Up until then RW never really lived up to it's promise, the robots would just spend the whole fight bouncing off each other until one of them suffered some random failure. Hypnodisk was the first robot with some proper destructive power behind it.

Only down side was that the gyroscopic effects of having suge a huge rotating mass made it virtually undriveable, I always wanted to build something with twin contra-rotating discs which would solve that issue whilst wreaking all sorts of havoc.
 
Razor was so far ahead the majority of the others design wise, brilliant piece of kit.
 
I watched robot wars in person when they done a programme or event near me.

One of the tiny robots ( they have different weight classes , lol ) got stuck in the roof netting :p

And I went because my dad took my little brother, nothing better to do... Ok?

I would definitely have gone. I was completely obsessed as a kid.:cool:

It was pretty cool seeing robots smash the **** out of eachother.

My childhood obsession was Action Man, with my dad being in the army... ( Before Action Man turned into some gay hi-tech warrior ..thing )

I thought they had the same weight limit - 100Kg. Just that the 100Kg now has to be split between two robots instead of one. And as for gemini seperating, I think they just had a couple of clasps that locked them together, but if you put any force against them, it just opened. They technically start as one robot since its all joined together. The only problem is that its easier to kill 1 50Kg robot than 1 100Kg one, so you just have to focus on one of the halfs. Though since they are identicle, its slightly harder :P

i rememeber watching this as a kid, and i remember the strange geeky fellas who made em!
 
I remember when it was filmed at Newcastles Telewest Arena. They had a rock club on that night and filming over ran, Craig Charles propped up the bar :)

haha the one that gets really excited.

I remember one moment vividly, purely because my dad mentions it everytime he commentates on MOTD. He was screaming "LOOK AT THAT FLAIL GOOOOOOO", but the flail was basically a cut down dog lead chain spinning at the most pathetic RPM that was doing no damage what-so-ever.
 
Used to love robot wars, razer was a seriously awesome robot, hypnodisc was also very good, just watched that fight against the robot with a huge frame around it, how the hell they were allowed to do that I don't know!
 
Posted this before but I seen Wheely Big Cheese for sale in a local market about a year ago.


Awesome program. :cool:
