5k to be able to tell the time.

you are a prime 100% grade A fool. im serious
Why? These sorts of watches don't last the 5 seconds a £20 Casio does - the really do stand the test of time (Excuse repeated puns).

I've "inhereted" a vintage watch from my grandfather, and not only do I have the fact that he wore it every day for decades, it's a very nice watch too! That £5000 Rolex could last generations and prove to be a sentimentally and physically valuable object for many people to enjoy.

They are one of the main Rolex dealers in London and also have the royal family seal of approval. I have bought several Rolex from them over the years. AFAIK there are no waiting lists for any Rolex model that is utter BS whoever told you that is probably a 2nd hand dealer trying to sell you one. If they do not have it in stock they will source one from the other Rolex main dealers worldwide if need be.

Rolex are only sold by a select few jewellers in each country anyone else is a profiteer and they are selling you a used watch as there is no grey market for them. Some watch dealers buy a Rolex then as they know there is profit sell it on etc etc.

The oldest trick in the book is to polish a used watch so it looks pristine then invent some fake history & or story & or certificate etc etc.

The only guaranteed way to buy a genuine Rolex it to use an official dealer. If your spending £5K plus or even lower then I would advise you only purchase from a main dealer. Its an investment and you also get a free service after 18 months.

Rolex are very strict on advertising and do not allow anyone to sell new watches on the WWW. They do not even advertise much themselves other than high profile sporting events like the tennis at wimbledon or yachting events.

Quick highjack soz :s
U watch guys what do u reckon of CARTIER ? i love the style of there watches.

Well actually, I would trust a casio more to tell the time than that Rolex.

I would spend the ~£5,600 on learning to drive and getting a car.

The Rolex looks legit enough, but I wouldn't part with that kind of cash without viewing... if you're going to spend £5,600 on a watch anyway, what's another £200 on a trip up there + b&b + lunch?

I won't say "go for it", though, because I think it's a silly spend of money ;)

Hi there
AWPC, I don’t think there is a single dealer anywhere in the world that does not have a very long list for the SS Daytona. Even if you put your name on the list chances are you will never get one unless you have a good relationship with them and spend a lot of money with them.

OP, as many have said they are a trusted seller however if your prepared to pay an inflated gray market price I would try and get hold of the newer z serial which I believe has been updated with serial number and roleXroleXroleX engraved on the inner ring. I bought a whiteface Daytona about 18 months ago at list; I am now really twisting my dealers arm to give me the new style one. Hopefully soon!

To the non watch lovers that think it’s a waste of money, Its not at all, as someone pointed out, the watch will never ever be worth less then he paid for it. If it brings the owner happiness I don’t see anything wrong with it. We all have our hobbies that others don’t understand. For example I probably spent 11/12k on watches in 2006 however I could not justify spending over 50 pounds on a GFX card and it took me 2 years to buy an ipod because I could not justify the expense.

the SS Daytona has waiting lists all over the world, these are sometimes manipulated for "better" customers but you average punter has a near zero chance of walking into any Rolex dealer and getting one in a short space of time at list price

Just walk into Mappin & Webb Regent St, London tell them what you want & I would be amazed if they do not either:

1: Produce one from their vast stock.

2: Source one from Rolex very quickly.

The main Rolex dealers tend to get bragging rights on priority allocation ;)

if you are that confident, then pick up a new stainless Daytona and I will give you list price plus 500 quid for your trouble

trust me, you won't get one

Some poeple are prepared to pay for quality products. I'd take an Omega for a fifth of the price personally, but its his choice.

Not everyone wants to wear cheap £30 crap.

Exactly, my GCSE present was some £100 addidas watch which served me well. For my 21st my parents got me a gorgeous £1k TAG. I don't wear jewellery and this is the one piece i will wear and cherish.

Plus like fox said, some of us like to wear quality products rather than some cheapy £30 next watch made in india for £5.

I think it's funny how people can judge how other people spend their own money. It shouldn't really matter - his financial situation could be really healthy so he might want to treat himself and splash out on something luxurious. I'm sure if people got a big paycheque one month, they'd go and upgrade their graphics card or some other PC part which can also be seen as unnecessary to others as well - so we really can't judge how chez spends his money.

With that said, I noticed the listing ended - so did you buy it in the end chez?

Also, I just had to add this in: time is money. :p

No, I didn't get that one in the end.. I decided that patience is the best tactic.

I'm going to wait until one comes up that is closer to home (so I can collect) and hopefully get a newer 'Z' serial number..
