Roll up roll up... OcUK Manchester (French Car) Meet No. 2

Well, that's good news.

How hard did you hit the curb at? I've hit curbs before and it hasn't damaged my suspension, so I can't see yours being ruined. We were all a bit miffed at the guys methods of getting it onto the truck too. I've got some pics of the wheel arch when it was on the flatbed, and tbh, it's a mess!

If you want to use my evidence as proof that the recovery guy damaged your car, feel free. Might be able to get them to pay for the repairs ;)

great advice, pft, shy... I've got a stutter and this is the second meet I've been too :p You've got no excuse!

Thanks to everyone for staying with me whilst I got it sorted. Sorry you had to stand about in the cold.

Don't worry about it.

It was something different anyway :) And we all had a chance to have a good chat.

Goliath, nice car mate! I'll give you a beep if I see you around.

Ok, couple of pics (I was going to write a litle story to go along with the pics, but I cba)...

At the services...

Some nice cars, and some not so nice...

So, we're having a good day... had a meal at the first pub, make our way to the second pub for a pint. A couple of us go out in a few cars for demo runs... the way the Gilly's 172 handled was mighty impressive!

I'm sure he thought I was a little kid the way I screamed as he planted his foot and went like a madman!

The 620Ti was rapid! Couldn't stop smiling when benneh planted it. That was with 3 people in the car too. I've decided that my next car HAS to be a Rover Turbo!

thebrasso's Civic VTi was also very impressive. You wouldn't think it to look at it, but this was another car that handled like it was on rails. He took corners faster than I would even dare in my car.

Mike's MR2 was interesting. I've got a few videos of me screaming like a schoolgirl as he ripped it around the 'track'. Got a bit tailhappy at one point which ended up with us sliding 90º! Quality!

Anyway, we set off from the 2nd pub to complete another circuit... get back through the little village, where the traffic was ridiculous. Started to climb the hill which takes us back onto the moors, when we were faced with this...

With careful planning, we had some 'form' of traffic warning system sorted...

It was at this point, when thebrasso sadly had to part with our company.

While standing around waiting for the AA to get off their fat asses, a couple of the members noticed something quite fitting to the situtation...

I decided what better opportunity to get a few snaps of the cars, as it was doubtful that we would carry on with the meet after Gilly was towed away...

And, what meet isn't complete without a little bit of foolishness...

It was trying to tell you something Gilly ;)

Finally, the tow truck arrived and we all watched helplessly as the Clio's wheel was pushed further and further back into the arch, causing even more damage.

Poor car!

And that concludes the OcUK Manchester Meet 2!

I would like to thank everyone who turned up, and Si for co-organising.

Sam and Mike, you two are stars for driving all the way from Southampton just to join us today.

Watch this space for MM3!

It was in the car park whilst you were whoring yourself round every car at the meet ;)

At the 2nd pub?

Can you blame me though? I got a passenger ride in 4 cars

4 very quick and great handling cars might I add.

You didn't seem too pleased when I got out of 'ye old grandad Rover' and said "Now, that was fast!" :p

Hey Sam, glad you got home safely mate :)

Hope the trip wasn't too tedious for you. Bonus marks for travelling all that way though. Bet Mike was in a right state by the time he dropped you off... having to listen to 50 Cent all the way ;)

God knows what was wrong with my car. It's been fine since. The battery voltage must have been a tiny bit too low to fire up. Thanks very much to you and Mike though!

Yep, it's a shame about Gilly's car. :( Hopefully, the at the 3rd MM we won't have any problems. You guys going to come down for that? I expect it'll be around May/June... don't want any more damp roads now do we.

Daz, nice story mate. Looking forward to the next part. You're talking over Paradigm's line. He won't be happy.

Cheers benneh! Hope you don't mind mate :)

 I won't have my new car by then n00b :(

Although, I do know some roads which will **** you all up :D

Si, we'll need to meet up sometime so that I can show you these roads. Very dodgy during the day, but loads of fun at night!

Coco knows! He was buzzing off that car, just as much as I was buzzing off the 620Ti.

That Alfa did shoot off though! Looked and sounded very quick!

Siliconslave, what happend mate? :( Did you get pulled over or get flashed by a camera?

I'm hoping that the SPECS along the M62 didn't clock me :( If what paradigm says is right, I was doing 80 when I entered it... but I was doing about 45 throughout it, so I might be ok.

Thanks for coming along btw. Was good to meet you. Really nice car you've got there.

One last thing, I was loving the Rover comments at the table. I love laughing at my (and many others) misfortune :p :D

Good job I keep that battery charger with me eh Andy. :p

You're a saviour mate! I can't thank you and Sam enough!

If I hadn't tried it that last time when Sam told me to, we would have all had to push the car to turn it around. Next time I'll know to park the other way ;)

thebrasso, I was very impressed with your car. Sounded sweet when VTEC kicked in yo! and seemed like much fun to drive! The handling on it was superb. When I got back in mine after having all the rides, I was shouting at it to go faster :(

I really don't think there's a way they can lump you with the blame/having to pay for the damage.

We've all got evidence that you weren't driving too fast for the corner. If you had been driving too fast, you would have ended up in the hedge. The pictures show exactly what happened, and where your wheel scraped the curb.

The only way this could have happened was through a mechanical failure, i.e. ball joint. Everyone agreed that it sounds like the ball joint failed before you hit the curb, and that's what caused the loss of steering.

I'm sure everyone who saw the accident would only be too happy to provide evidence to help you. Feel free to use my pictures, and e-mail me if you want the full size originals (with EXIF data).

Don't worry Gilly, us OcUKers will help you sort it out!
