Hey am going to build a new game computer, wanted to pitch a question, Ive been with AMD for some time now but i wanted to pitch the question to you guys.

Whats better, Intel or AMD?

Appreciate your input!

Thanks much :D

A64 has held the gaming crown for the last 18 months or so, but with the release of Conroe and Merom it looks set to shift back to Intel.

My personal opinion would be to hang on for Conroe.

amd fan here, if you want it now amd, if you want it later wait for real benchies of cornrow when it comes out, im sure lots of people here will have some as EVERYONE EVER is going cornrow so yeah, id probably just hold out till late july and see what happens

There is no answer without knowing further info..

- new system or upgrade (which parts do you already have?)
- budget £x
- use of system (games? multimedia? office work? mixture?)
- quiet system or not bothered?
- looking to buy now or in x months time?

^ People should be allowed to post any thread they like as long as it doesn't contravene rules, which this doesn't last time I looked!

My opinion is that it won't be as black and white as "Conroe owns, AM2 sucks" in about 6 months. For the 2nd half of 06 however, it will be that way.

I can't wait to see some benchmarks on those cornrow systems :p

Meaningful input: who knows? It's all a bit muddled at the mo. Is AM2 as bad as it appears, or have AMD got an uber-chip waiting? Conroe does look good, but let it unfold I say.

Thanks for all the answers, the comp is going to be gaming, its going to be a entirely new system, noise i dont care about, looking to buy in 1 month.

Im looking at a dual SLI........i looked at some of the prices for upcoming conroe and thats too much, I'm will ing to spend about 1000 quid, but I would rather spend more on the video card and board so that i can upgrade the chip and ram later.

I was looking at this board, MSI K9N Diamond nForce 590 SLi (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (MB-068-MS), what do you guys think?

Thanks mcuh guys!

Also depends how you want to go about the build - TBH if you want a new system then go with one of the main 'online' system builders (you won't match their buying power - and the £1000 mark will get you an awesome system) If you're happy with 2nd hand then about a months time will be perfect timing to pick up nice cheap 939 systems with a couple of 7900GT's in si :p

cans........open.......worms........everywhere

For me its AMD, but only becasue ive been with them for years, our only Pentium being a P1 166MHz. However, Conroe is looking promising so my views may change soon.

fanboy war to start

Intel with have the edge in almost everything when Conroe is released

All the bickering is not just annoying, it's pointless - the question isn't "which is better" it is "which is better for me?"

Tell us exactly what you want to achieve and when and we can help you to answer the question without the need to resort to mindless product-bashing/fanning

Well, so far there are plenty of people shouting OMG THIS WILL BE A FANBOY WAR... and no actual war. So leave it out. ;p
