conroe 2.66 ghz encodes a video in windows media encoder 9 deconds faster than a fx 60 at 2.8ghz
Not that exciting when you look at it like that.

AnandTech said:In the coming months we will see the official launch of Intel's Core 2 Duo processors, based on the Conroe core. Only time will tell how availability will affect pricing of those CPUs, but Intel is quite eager to release them. AMD is also awaiting the launch of Core 2 Duo, though for different reasons; in fact one of its stipulations for sending out Socket-AM2 review kits was that the CPUs not be compared to Conroe. We understood and agreed with AMD's stance on the issue, simply because Core 2 Duo (Conroe) isn't shipping yet while AM2 is, but we do get a sense of concern whenever Conroe is brought up around AMD.
AMD does have one last trick up its sleeve before the end of the year, and you will hear about it in June. It's not K8L and it's not going to affect the majority of people, but it is an interesting stop gap solution for the high end in 2006...
Jokester said:That might be the A64 "Extreme Edition" that I've read rumours about, 4MB cache alledgedly.

Explicit said:If that also comes with an extreme price tag, then AMD can forget it. We can buy an E6600/E6700, mobo and DDR2 ram for that much.
Anyway, we shall find out very soon, June is almost here
It might well be exciting if a 2.66GHz Conroe is a third of the price of a 2.8GHz A64 FX60 (which is a strong possibility). Conroe does look like a very large increase in price/performance ratio, rather more so than is normal. That conroe isn't the top model at release, let alone in the next few months as manufacturing is refined. There is good evidence of a lot of clockspeed headroom in the design.easyrider said:lol
