Hi,

Its that time of year again were by i've been summounds to put on a romantic meal for my girlfriend or i'll get the thick end of the wedge.

I've looked through a bunch of cook books, but nothing is catching my eye, has anyone got any suggesetions that would make a good three course meal. Presentation is the key here, also want to avoid pasta, as we always have it. Also most fish and chicken on the bone is no.

Any budding Jamie Olivers out there ?

Edit: also a good cocktail would be awesome

Prawn cocktail (dead easy) or melon (dead easy)

Ribeye Steak with a Roquefort cheese sauce and dauphinoise (also fairly easy)

NYC style cheesecake (dead easy)

Fairly cheap too :)

Starters something fruity

Main, what about Pheasant or Veal?

Desert has to have chocolate in (more for her than you)

Cocktail I'd suggest a Mojito but then since its romantic something red and with a strawberry on the glass comes to mind (brain is trying to think rapidly)

As pasta is out we'll leave the Italian.

What foods do you both like? For initial suggestions take a look here they have a finder which you can use.

Chinese theme I'd suggest looking at this book. I've got a copy and it's great :)

How adventurous do you want to be?

Long Island Iced Tea always goes down pretty well. You need to get the measures right though.

Strawberry Daiquiri?

I'd say it was more Japanese...but not a lot of fish....

The Yaki Soba (sp) is superb, and as a guinea pig for many of Leo's recipes, i'd say go for it - the yaki soba is basically just noodles with meat and veg chucked in, but it looks well impressive ;)

If you're in brighton why not take her out, I went to carluccios last night as it was my girlfriends birthday, we had a great meal there :D

i'm in london this weekend, where is carluccios though just out of interest ? Taking her out for dinner will loose me serisous brownie points.

It's a new place in the north laines, where the new buildings (jubilee library, starbucks, yo sushi etc) are.

Discokandy,

what does she like to eat? favourite foods?

if you get the atmosphere right you cna serve pretty much anything and make it romantic.

There isn't a hell of a lot she doesn't like, I'm keen to do something really different from what we normally eat, so trying to avoid her favourites. Think i've got the atmosphere sorted. Candles in the garden, roses etc etc

Put some sugar around the rim of the glass too (dip the very top of the glass in water and then roll the edge of it in sugar) for completeness :)

Place them in fridge for a while
