Ronaldo - Tested to the Limit (SS1 8/9 8PM)

Really?

I have just looked back about 6 years and saw only one game i saw Ronaldo had scored.
Twice he has been sent off from what i saw also.

You might be right however before i moved i went to every derby match and can only ever remember him getting sent off in the game ended 1-0 Rooney scored and 3-1? at CoMS when he got straight red for tackling Dabo i think.

What

From memory I remember a goal in an FA Cup tie in 2004, a goal at OT in a 3-1 in 2006, the winner and title clincher at Eastlands in 2007 (same season) and a free kick at OT in his last season.

Ok,
The website i was using didnt show all the goalscorers and i didnt click on every match report so i didnt realise he had scored that many. Sorry :(

Look, i am not saying he isnt a good player but its just i rate Messi so much higher. Maybe its because he used to play for utd or the fact that he used to cheat so much before Fergie kicked it out of him. Messi to me is just incredible, when he has the ball or even without it he is perfect nearly almost every time.

I rarely watch Real apart from the El Classico games so maybe my judgement is harsh considering how much Real seem to get taken apart almost every game v Barca although Mourinho looks to be getting closer to working it out?

It sounds like i am backtracking here i know.

Ronaldo is better than Messi at some things and vice versa.

You dont see Messi scoring many free kicks or even taking them for that matter.

Ronaldo is more effective in the air and as a target man.

Ronaldo can shoot from outside the box.

etc.

Messi just has insane ball control, skill, pace and movement.

Ronaldo is the better all rounder i would say.

Stick Ronaldo in Barcelona's team and he would outscore and out assist Messi.

Comical, do you get all your footie knowledge from FIFA? :D

Messi can shoot outside of the box and has scored many spectacular goals. As for free kicks.. Messi doesn't take them much, infact I've only ever seen him take 2-3. 2 of them he came incredibly close with and the other he slammed in to the top corner. Go figure. I imagine Messi is happy to let others take the free kicks where as Ronaldo demands it because, well, it's another chance for all the attention to be on him.

And to say Messi is just about insane ball control, skill, pace and movement is harsh (though I sure as hell would love to be just about those things :D). He's a deadly finisher, links up incredibly well and has fantastic vision and can pass the ball, much better than Ronaldo.

And I'm not hating on Ronaldo. He's a wonderful footballer, but Messi is hands down the best player on the planet.

I watched this last, it's a lot better than I thought it would be.

Really interesting to watch as someone who plays football. Oh and I met him too :)

Will be interesting to here what you guys think

Well said:)....i like Ronaldo, i think hes a great footballer but comparison between him and Messi are a bit unfair...Messi is just on another planet when it comes to football...not only does he score lots of goals but hes always making things happen and doesnt seem to be an extremely selfish player.

Yet Ibra, and to a lesser degree Villa have been considered.... meh, because they haven't scored as much as Eto'o, as Messi has gotten better, he's also their main goal scorer.

Benzema started off crap but has improved a lot and Ronaldo sets him up well, Ronaldo also linked up great with Higuian till his injury.

Ronaldo has the most shots on his team, Messi has the most shots for Barca, 2.5times as many as Pedro in the somewhat opposite position, and more than Villa their main striker.

People see what they want to see, Messi has 14 more assists over the past 6 years, so just over 2 more assists a season..... considering the team he plays for is that really that surprising, if I'm seeing it right Barca have scored 44 more goals than Real in the past 5 seasons. The season before Ronaldo arrived Barca outscored Real by 20 goals, the two seasons since, Real have outscored Barca.

Ronaldo had 10 assists in the league in 32 games, better than the vast majority of people in Europe, but he's selfish because he scored so many? Did no one actually watch Ronaldo this season except in a couple el classico's where the MANAGER put Ronaldo up front on his own, with no support?

Ronaldo also apparently isn't very good on the ball..... or at passing.....

Messi is a truly excellent player, Ronaldo is every bit as good, its not necessary, but I've rarely if ever seen Messi pass with his back, shoulder, or be as "tricksy" as Ronaldo. Ronaldo tends to play with pure pace because he's pretty fast, so his tricks are a bit more showy, Messi tends to keep the ball very very close and jink through players rather than go around, neither is better, both players can play both ways, they just have a preference.

Completely agree about Messi, he's so much better than any other player on the planet it's laughable. I think Ronaldo is a brilliant player, he's one of the best players United has ever had, but he's still nowhere near Messi.

Having said that, some of the stuff he's doing on this program is pretty impressive, only .3 seconds slower than a professional sprinter over 25m, and can jump higher than an NBA player!

but he's still nowhere near Messi.

Things like that really irk me, seriously Ronaldo is nowhere near Messi? Yes Messi is the better of the two but Ronaldo is no where near? Pull the other one there's not that much between them

There is, Messi for me is on a par with Maradonna, better than Zidane. I've never watched a player who's as good as him. OK, maybe saying he's miles better than Ronaldo is a bit harsh as they are both world-class players, but Messi is undoubtedly the better player.

Who cares? Both are amazing players :)

Its like Mega drive vs SNES all over again

Basically we're lucky to be watching two of the best players of the past 20-30 years both playing at roughly the same age in the same league. I do think that the poor defences in the Spanish league make it easier for them though. Ronaldo scored 40 goals in the league last year, and the most he managed at United was 31 in a year of absolutely exceptional form. It would be interesting to see how Messi would perform in the prem.

Was it the counter-attacking goal against Arsenal that he ran at sprinter-esque speed from one end to the other to score? It looked disgustingly quick... on grass... with studs...

Yep. I remember that goal, amazing counter attack.

Ronaldo is an amazing athlete, I don't think there is much argument about that.

He's in such an amazing physical condition, it's funny when you compare how fit he is to some other players, really no excuse for being a bit out of shape :p
