They'll miss his workrate. I'm have a feeling it won't stop them competing though..
Have people not noticed how he doesn't do the "workrate" stuff of the past few seasons AT ALL this year, and thats what made him so good. He's in the 18 yard box or waiting to run into it, he's not running into midfield all game long trying to hack people down.
HE wasn't influencial in any way last night and because of the 18yard box role, he's not really been at all influencial in winning midfield in any game this year, thats not his role.
Utd lost that midfield battle last night, plain and simple, Rooney had nothing to do with that, when Valencia and Berb came on they got very little of the ball and were ineffective, because the midfield trio were woeful. Fletcher let people run rings around him, Carrick was pathetic and Scholes lacked anyone to pass to most of the time and was quickly marked.
Utd can win quite easily if they don't play the useless Carrick and Fletcher is less useless.
Frankly they should play a 4-4-2 and get the ball rather than play through central midfield, break in behind Ribery (and Robben if he's due back) and have a go with Nani and Valencia at the full backs. Who Utd would play as a second striker I don't know, Giggs, or a youngster, not sure what the better option is.
If they can control midfield they'll have more chances and only need a goal, if they lose midfield again they'll concede goals because Bayern will make chances, Rooney doesn't even come into the equation to be honest.
They also need Evra to have a less bad game and Neville did exceptionally well except one crucial handball.
Against Liverpool Carrick was utterly hopeless, and at fault for losing the ball so pathetically for their first goal at a point where 5 minutes in you weren't yet sure if Liverpool remembered how to play football. The difference is Bayern are better than most of the teams in the prem league at the moment.
I really do not understand how Carrick starts games when almost every performance this year he's been equally useless and timid, the one thing he used to offer, an eye for the pass, he hasn't had working at all this season.
