Root Canal Work

i may need a root canal

there is a hairline crack in a molar. when i put pressure on it from eating its sore and if you swish cold water around its pretty painful

so i assume my tooth/nerves are very much alive
so can they actually inject a nerve

do they drill then inject you again?

I'm sure they wont work on you if you feel pain.

Well had mine done last Tuesday, and after all the worry I didnt feel a thing. They numbed my tooth/gum like usual, then started work by drilling it all out.
Only pain I had was like a pin ***** on the nerve as they were cleaning the nerve out.

But apart from that nothing, worst thing about it was having so much stuff in your mouth and the smell of the drilled tooth. Not nice.

It can be quite bad, i actually chose to get a tooth removed rather than get root canal (it was only a small tooth).

My mum had days of hell with it. depends on the situation I guess.

I had about 6 hour sessions of work done on one tooth and they didn't manage to save it in the end, and had to remove it (fell to bits while removing which sucked, plus the noise is makes is horrible)

It's not that bad, they essentially numb the mouth and before it sets in, dive right in to filing the roots out if they reckon they're dead, if it hurts they wait until the stuff kicks in. Then just use tiny files to remove the roots. The worst bit is keeping your mouth open for ages makes your jaw ache imo. The blood aint nice, my tooth bled quite badly and i could see flecks of it, and it hurts a bit afterwards.

i had a root canal a couple of weeks ago and the first session i didn't feel a thing. However, the second session was painful when then put the rubber cone thing in the canal's. Like a stabing pain when they placed them. Only lasted a couple of seconds mind but it was intense!

My dentist is very very good - didn't even feel the injection he was that good. Took just over 40 minutes because it was tricky getting to a couple of the nerves but it was completely painless and actually kinda interesting.

I was actually a bit nervous going in - but I wouldn't even think twice about it now - if you've got a good dentist then theres nothing to worry about.

Do what I did .

Find an NHS dentist and scream like a little girl as soon as he touches your teeth for anything .

He now send me off to be sedated for anything other than a small filling .

I had one and it was just the best feeling.

Bare in mind the abcess below the tooth was agony (words fail to express the pain) I'd not slept for 3 days. When the dentist burst the abcess I felt all the puss blast out but it felt so good for the preasure to be released. The dentist woke me up about an hour later when he'd finished, I wasn't put under was just so tired.

The long term consequences of a root canal can be that the tooth becomes brittle and more vunerable to being chipped. So I would tend to take more care of that tooth, when chewing or biting etc.

Had 3 in one session (along with two extractions and a bunch of deep cleaning) and was in the chair for 7 hours. Didn't feel a thing.....mind you I was sedated to virtual unconsciousness with a cocktail of drugs and gas. I was actually the happiest person on planet for those 7 hours :D

is that 3 different teeth or 3 roots in one tooth (molar?)

i had it confirmed today that a root canal will take place. the first stage is complete. he drilled down and is freezing them? its a molar at the top left

7 hours wow... I was in the chair for barely 40 minutes for 3 roots and that was only because a couple were in a tricky position...

I have yet to have any kind of injection at the dentist.

Thank God, as I'm **** scared of injections for some reason. :p

Got my BCG in school 5 times cause I kept jerking my arm.

And that injection you get where there are two different vaccinations at the same time in different arms, I jerked my right arm and the needle cut a 2 inch mark. :(

The injection is the worst part, so you'll be fine.

That said, I had one in the roof of my mouth once and it felt like it was going up behind my eyes :D

just had my first root canal session. was in the chair for an hour and didnt feel anything :)

he took 3 roots from one molar afaik. he said my roots were huge and curved so it was a little awkard :p

next session will be filling and capping maybe but yeah, ok so far thankfully :)

btw my root canal treatment and crown for one molar will be £734

i'm lucky i have some savings. silly silly money but you cant put a price on having your own teeth (thats what im telling myself anyway ;))
