Round 2: Fancy testing an Alpenföhn Brocken CPU Cooler? Let us know...

Got mine delivered by UPS this morning.

Have opened it and had a look.

Will test it out over the next few days. Not sure about how the Purple LED fan will go with my Orange LEDs in my case though.

Edit: Done a quick assembly of cooler and 1366 bits and bobs through a bit of card and I'm a tad concerned that the LGA1366 fixings are so much smaller than those provided by competitors coolers and the LGA775 and AMD fixings supplied in the box. I know this cooler is older but is it safe to assemble to a LGA1366 motherboard considering the weight of the cooler?

See what I mean? These little 12mm plastic washers are all that sits on the rear of the motherboard, whereas I'm used to the big X shaped brackets which mostly come with good coolers. LGA775 and AMD make use of the X shaped bracket in the parts kit but poor opld LGA1366 must do with these little things.

The gap is to be filled by the motherboard.

First impressions of the cooler apart from the mounting mechanism are good though.

Just received mine. Let me say the original pictures of this cooler do not do it justice. It is a beast. I though it may be around the same size as Freezer Pro but was i wrong. It is quite a bit bigger. Looking at it now I don't see on the instructions how to fit it to AM3 but it can't be much different then AM2 i would think.

Today is actually my Birthday so please give me a few days to get some results posted. I have all my result froms my Arctic Freezer so just need to get some from this and post them. Bit worried about fitting this in my case as it is quite tall but will work it out and post back in the next few days.

Just had a bit more look at it. It seems to come with some TIM . I would prefer to use my MX-4 I already have but would like opinions. Shall I try the TIM supplied with the cooler and then MX-4?? Please let me know.

Going out for some B-Day drinks now. Hope to report on this tomorrow evening. All comments and suggestions welcome. I also have some Akasa-455 if someone would like me to try that just let me know. Thanks guys. Just trying to do best I can as this is my first component related review need to know what you all would like.
 
According to the Op you can basically test whichever way you like. I for one am going to use mx-4 as that is the best I have here. I'm going to compare against my existing cooler temperature wise and also noise performance, along with some feedback on the visual aspect and mounting method.

I think Alpenfoehn just want exposure to their products from normal people and not the usual review sites.

Still hoping I get to test Peter though and hope that getting this cooler to test doesn't affect my chances of that.
 
That is basically what i had figure and also what I pretty much planned on doing. Just wanted to make sure as I am still quite new here and didn't know if there was a certain protocol to follow. I plan on taking a lot of photos of this along the way especially the mounting process a that normally seems to be the biggest pain in the butt.

I doubt testing this will effect you testing peter (whatever that may be) as OCUK seem to use Random.org for these purposes :)

Peter is a graphics card cooler. It promises to be better than the one I already have, the £50 Thermalright Shaman. Probably not worth an upgrade but definately worth a tryout.
 
But to run my final test on my current setup then go ahead and install my brocken. hope to have some results by the end of the night posted with pictures.
 
Mine came by UPS still some day light left have faith :) If not hope its there tomorrow. Not to be an @$$ but got mine in and ready for some testing. After I make dinner to keep the wife happy of course.
 
On first look Temps seem to be about 8c lower than with the Arctic cooling freezer extreme. Will post some more tomorrow when I get all my data :)

I've double checked your addy in the mail I sent over to Alpenfohn and its the same as you just mailed over in trust so should be fine mate. Give it a few more days and let me know!
