Router dropping all connections periodically

I have a D7000 Netgear Router and and random intervals it drops all connections (wired and wireless) and doesn't allow you back onto the network.

If I look at the router lights when this happens all of them are indicating no errors and the internet connection light is still on. I just can't seem to get into the router.

On wireless devices they all get booted off and when you try to join the network wireless it complains that the password is wrong which is clearly not the case.

If I try to connect with a wired connection the client gets connected to the router with an odd IP address (169.x...).

To solve this i basically have to power cycle the unit and it's fine.

This seems to repeat itself 3 times a day at least and it's getting annoying now.

I checked the logs section of the router but it seems they get wiped every time I power cycle which isn't very useful.

Any ideas what this could be?

The firmware is the latest.
I have a feeling the DHCP server is crapping itself and causing some kind of conflict somewhere?

If your drivers are up to date do a factory reset as suggested if it still dropping the connection get your line checked.

Router should always be connected to the master socket for stable and best connection speeds.

What was your connection like before using the D700O?

I'm about 800mtrs from the cabinet my D7000 has been solid from day one and has improved my down/upload speed.

i have a Netgear too and i get a similar - i'll drop internet connection and still get the "!" even though all the router lights end up green. Windows troubleshooting usually says my DNS host might be having an issue. when it's the on wifi on the machine upstairs i take the aerial dongle thingy out and put it back in and it resolves itself, the one time it did it on the wired machine i just turned the router off/on.
there's times where things will lock up and the traffic light is flickering like mad, thought it was Win updates but it never seems to be, didn't know if this was a related thing or what, but it's fairly annoying too as there seems no reason for it.

Sorry for such a late response - I thought I fixed it by assigning IP's to all devices. This solved the problem for a week but it happened again. So now I have tried a factory reset.

I have a feeling it is my switch that is causing this - but lets see if the factory reset on the router fixes this. After I did a factory reset, I could connect with all devices via WiFi, but nothing via wired through the switch. I then changed the router IP from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1 and now I have connectivity with wired again.

Prior to this step going to 192.168.0.1 on a wired device would take me straight to the switch web admin panel, where as going to this IP on a wireless device would take me to the router login.

Firmware is up to date, I don't use VSDL filters as I have the face plate fitted. The plusnet supplied router works fine with no issues, so I can rule the connection out.

If your router is 192.168.1.1, set the DHCP range on the router to be from 192.168.1.10-254 and manually set your switch IP as 192.168.1.2, with the gateway and DNS set to 192.168.1.1 (on the switch)

Do you use powerline adaptors?

I do use powerline adaptors.

Since yesterday I did a reset on the switch (pin in the back of the switch). I have had no drop outs since, but it's not been very long so I will see how it goes this week.

If this fails then I will set then ip ranges as mentioned above.

Thanks

If you're running through the powerlines, it will be them. I upgraded to a set of 1200mb ones with built in wireless, every so often all devices on the network connected to them drop out.

Was all good for a few days and it happened again this morning :(

I did this, but still the same issue.

I have disconnected powerline adaptors as I don't use them - but it didn't make a difference

I have no idea what to do now!

Has happened a couple of time with my D7000 as well. Only had 3 wireless devices and 1 wired device. I had to reboot the router.

Not sure it's anything specific, no power line anymore on my network, but it hasn't happened as often as you are seeing it, maybe it's a quirk with this model?

Yeah it is very odd to be honest.

Prior to this I had the cable version of the router which was solid as a rock.
I switched to VDSL from cable and changed the router to the VSDL version R7000 (rest of the kit unchanged).

To summarise I've tried the following:

1) Firmware update
2) Assigning fixed IP's to devices
3) Change the IP range for the DHCP server as suggested
4) Removing powerline adaptors
5) Factory reset
6) Factory reset on my gigabit switch

Still after trying all of the above I get the same issue:
Router lights indicate the connection is fine to the net and the wifi is up. However all devices no longer can connect either wired or wirelessly. Only way to get out of this state is to power cycle.

Is there any advanced logging I can enable?

I may have to revert to using the PlusNet supplied router OR I could try flash DD-WRT?

This is the logging section on my D7000, can you use the send this syslog to IP address feature to log errors?
