Looking at a bubble Rover 200 1.4 tomorrow with a mate, he passed his test last Saturday.

W Reg
50,000 on the clock
Tax til April
MOT til ??
Possibly some/all service history
Looks clean enough inside

£1095 ONO but theres atleast 4 dents on the rear quarter and boot door, I feel this price is too high for a private sale in its condition...?

What should I look out for on it as i'm having to test drive it for him tomorrow.

Price does seem high considering the condition. If it was in very good condition then I'd say it was fair

The service history helps though

Check that the cambelts been done - if not you'll need to have it done asap

Check the oil and coolant carefully for any signs of HGF. The coolant should be clear and topped up - check that the scheduled coolant changes have been done

Check that the radiator fan hasn't been hard wired on as some less honest people do to hide any possible problems

The car should warm up quickly - the water temperature guage should go up to normal (just below half way) within 5-10 minutes from cold. After it's warmed up properly (leaving some time for the oil to warm up) you can try increasing the revs past 3k rpm - it should rev smoothly right up to the red line

Check the clutch too as these can be abused. It's a cable clutch so it's quite a heavy clutch with a definite spring like action

It's badged as a 200 on the boot, but an RAC check shows it as a 214 iL should I be suspicious about this?

iL = 16v 101bhp according to Parkers.

Most of the bubbles had a 200 badge instead of their actual engine size.

Jay, if it looks like this...

It's a 16v.

If the head is smaller and it says 'Rover' anywhere apart from the middle of the engine, it's an 8v. Also, the 8v will be slow as **** whereas the 16v will actually have some go about it.

Thats cool then.

AGW are you in Rochdale tomorrow? Help me :D - you know Rover's inside out, I know Corsa's :o

I haven't had the delights of looking in the engine bay yet, but i'm sure it's a 16v if RAC vehicle check have it as a iL...

I'm supposed to be seeing the seller with my mate at mid-day but might be dragging them all out of bed at 11am depending on how much of an a hole i'm feeling :D

Its 10-20 secs from the Shell station if that ;) You noticed the phone box at the back of it.

Theres that u-turn bit well it's parked on the kerb. It was still there at 10.20pm - I think the seller is brave :p

haha, I drove past that today :D Looked quite tidy from what I saw of it.

I'll be there at 12 :)

Definitely be there?

You got my number? Yesun? give the engine bay the once over(coolant, radiator/fan, cambelt etc) and i'll drive off in it down the 627 if the seller lets me :D

Where can I leave the Corsa of doom? Wonder if Shell stations staff will let me their spare land where that Rover 75 is always parked? I like that Rover, you seen it?

Yep, I'll defo be there (although, I do sleep quite heavily after a few beers :o)

Nope, not got your number. E-Mail me if you want (boywarrick at gmail dot com). Yeah, I've seen that Rover 75... pst... it's actually an MG ZT ;)

OK will do, Rover 75, MG Rover ZT all the same to me :D

Can you actually tell the diff between an 8v and a 16v? Ive personsally owned both and tbh they were both what they said on the tin, cheap little cars, with no power. My gf has driven an 8v for about 30k now and it seems fine. Cant see the point in the 16v really with its reputation. This is trying to be from a non biased pov who has owned a lot of rover cars, and others to get some perspecive....

Well even though he's 28 he doesn't need too much power because he's been driving around in a 56 reg Toyota Yaris :p

The guys too overcautious and nervous when driving, will 100bhp be too much?

These cars go for peanuts - I'd look around for a cheaper mint one to be honest.

I know a guy who recently bought a very very clean one on an 'S' plate for £120!
