Rover 200

 it is the exception rather than the rule then. £120 will get you knackered car with a few months MOT and possibley tax around here

Didn't exactly need the rolleyes now did it?

What you are saying does hold some value though, my mate bought one for £500 (P-reg, white, horrid thing), and within a week it suffered HGF (showed no signs previously).

I really was hoping that it wouldn't live up to the stereotype, but it did.

I know £120 isn't typical, but these cars are almost worthless 2nd hand and £1000 for one with 4 dents in is a riducolous amount to pay.

I sold my Rover 420GSI, 1998, 55k miles and got £400 for it (thats was with only one dent, but otherwise very good condition)

Looked at it close this morning, theres deep white scrapes on the front bumper where the paints missing, steering felt extremely light?

The guy came out and said he wouldn't take less than 975£

The V5 is still in a womans name in Bradford and the car is being sold in Rochdale, I questioned it and he said 'oh er, my Dad's Wife Sister asked me to sell it'

It was a 16v just to confirm it.

Can you actually tell the diff between an 8v and a 16v?

Definitely! I've never driven an 8v but my Mum had one and I was also a passenger in a mates (driven hard). They were pretty ******* crap! The 16v was a much much better drive and I actually found it somewhat entertaining.

After picking up the 220 and driving it for a week, I had to pick the 214 up from a garage after putting it in for its MOT. When I first got in it, I'll be the first to admit it did feel dog slow but after it'd warmed up and I started opening it up, it just begged to be revved. Obviously I wouldn't have another after having the Turbo, but I still think the 16v has got some nice performance for a 1.4.

Jay, sorry about this morning mate! Had a family emergency and didn't get your e-mail with your number. Does sound a bit dodgy regarding the V5.

Probably out of an auction or part-ex. Probably cost the bloke £400-500 and he wants to double his money. Would never buy a car off the road-side. I can drive down 4 roads in Hull and find 40-50cars for sale with a4 typed for sale ads, all these cars are aimed at the migrants coming over from Poland, latvia, lithuania and Slovakia who come on the P&O ferry every morning.
If you want a Rover 200, there must be plenty of older retired drivers running these vehicles as they were popular with the 'mature person wanting a patriotic British Car', just ring round the local paper adverts and when you get an older voice on the phone then that's the one to go for!

In a case like this I would walk away mate, it does not sounds like the best deal in the world and some things not right there.

I know its a pain to leave a car which seems along the kind of lines that your after but its just not worth it considering the selection out there, its always a buyers market.

AGW no problem, it sounded like a diesel when I first started it but it's a 1.4 16v petrol.

The guy is about 20-23 yrs old, i'm telling my mate to leave it but he's got his heart set on it :(

He wont listen to my advice, the steering was mega light and the bodywork looks a bit of a mess.

If your mate wants to see the kind of Rover you can get for little money, I'll show him mine ;)

Is this his first car? I'm guessing the Yaris belonged to a family member? It's always hard when it's your first car... quite a lot of people get dead set on the first car they see and nothing you try and say can change their mind.

I'm always here if you want a second opinion on a car :)

My friend that wants the car is 29 and passed a fortnight ago, but is scared of high miler cars (60k+).

The Yaris was his instructors car.

He lives in Deeplish if you know where that is Andy :p

Oh yeah, that's it! I forgot you'd said he'd just passed.

Sounds like he needs a reality check though. He's after a Rover 200 but is scared of higher mileage cars??

Deeplish... doesn't ring a bell.

Its the area surrounding Well Ith Lane + Kwiksave.

Does the 1.6 suffer HGF?

Even in a bad postcode area a 29 year old with 0ncb with a fresh license wouldnt pay an extortionate amount on a 1.6 16v group 7 car would he?

Yeah, all K's are susceptible to HGF. Some people say the 1.6 and 1.8s moreso than the 1.4s just you don't really hear about failure on those engines as they aren't as common. You can now get an uprated headgasket and oil ladder which is supposed to stop the HG failure.

I reckon he'd be paying about £600 for the bubble. Not 100% though.
