Rover K Series HGF - What actually causes it?

And it runs Dual IDF 40MM IIRC Carbs which is gonna let any engine make big power

The 106 rallye has injectors not carbs. Or am I missing something?

Not that S13's don't suffer from terminal rust problems and bottom end failure at all ;)

Saying that, i'm with you, give me an decent S13 any day :p
yep i was going to say look forward to rebuilding the bottom end at 70k then :)

8v (phase 1) 106 rally is carbs

Err are you thinking of the 205 rallye? The s1 106 rallye has injectors.

16v (phase 2)106 rallye uses the gti/saxo vts engine so is injection and also 1.6

The phase 2 rallye is still an 8v albeit in 1600cc form, similar to the early saxo vtr engines but with a raised rev limit and a few differences in the head. Not to be confused with the 16v unit used in the gti and saxo vts.

The MGF doesn't interest me, so why would I care about where the battery is :p

the battery is in the standard place, under the bonnet, it's the engine that's hard to find ;)

oh 60K miles and no HG failures here on my 1.8 VVC, my dad's K series engines rover has also done 100K with no HGs dying :D That said I do have uprated dowels and a stainless HG :p

I think the key is to check (and top up if required) the coolant and oil weekly as well as not thrashing it from cold everymorning.
