Rover K Series HGF - What actually causes it?

The 205 has wet liners, you need to be careful not to disturb them when changing the head gasket. I don't think they're as sensitive as the K-series ones though.

Not a standard saloon car ;) though I'm rather ashamed that I forgot that one. When I was 18 it was my dream car

Perhaps not in a saloon but really we are talking about the power plant as an engineering achievement regardless of its usage ;)

[WAVES] & mine's positioned perfectly for HGF :D [Touches wood] ;)

As for K-series engines being pants, name me another engine designed over 15 years ago that weighs so little and can produce 100bhp from a 1.4 in a standard saloon car*.

*I expect there's a lot but I can't think of any off the top of my head

Polo G40. ;) 113bhp out of a 1.3 (albeit supercharged) :D

Since when did the Suzuki Swift GTi ever have forced induction as standard? Are you perhaps thinking of the Charade GTi?

Whats really impressive about the 100bhp TU series engine is that it's an 8 valve head, yet manages to produce 100bhp without having the power band of a diesel.

I love the Pug TU engines :)

Is this 100bhp actually made on the rollers though?

A lot of 106 rallyes actually over-achieve the manufacturers bhp stats when on the rollers. 100bhp is not bad for a 1.3 8v :)

It also weighs about 25Kg more than the K-series, if I recall correctly...

And it runs Dual IDF 40MM IIRC Carbs which is gonna let any engine make big power

So more material to hold those pesky liners in place ;)

Lee, I was just wondering though, has your ZR had HGF yet?

Its done 26,000 miles so its over due mate :D

T'other week a mate of mine bought an MGF and as soon as he got it home we all stood round it having a butchers and he fired it up and the starter motor wouldnt turn off lol it just kept going, he tried everything to turn it off, because of where the engine is he couldnt work out where it was lol.

In the end it burnt out an he had to replace it, he had to jack the car up and go in behind the wheel to replace it :D if that was a common fault on any marque it would be one of the funniest things ever, the look on his face was priceless :D

 :D :D OMG! So, the master of Rover haters himself hasn't ever had HGF! Oh, this is too good :D

Be sure to let us know when it does go, won't you ;)

That starter motor thing... that'd be quite scary. ARGHHHHHHHHH, why's there smoke coming from my car! Didn't it stop when he turned the ignition off?

No mate, he looked for the battery to disconnect that and couldnt find it. thats the problem with these rear engined cars when you dont know your way around them lol

Even though it mings harder than a hard thing, its a nice drive. It feels loads faster than it actually is too, probably because its so low down. I had to put my hands on the floor and roll out - they aint made for fat blokes :(

LOL, now that I'd love to see. :D You've got to come to the meet just for that!

I agree about the batteries though. You don't know where the hell it is. It could be under the rear seat for all you know
