and only stuff re him, his managerial style ( or lack thereof ) and his future ( should be a short thread )

if you want to discuss Rafa's legacy then make a thread fot it

if you want to discuss whether Konchesky is the worst player you have ever seen then a thread is fine

as for newer posters asking why single club threads were stopped

They stifled discussion as everything went into a few threads

People tended to stick to the threads of their own club, people who ventured into others were often labelled trolls

The threads got messy and hard to follow

They were even harder to moderate

He is terrible at liverpool.
Can do okay at certain clubs.
Tactically inept.
Boring tactics.
And hopefully his future is less than 3 days.

He's a decent enough manager. Done well with limited resources at Fulham where the players wanted it enough. To be honest i've never rated the squad that Rafa built and Hodgson inherited but again it's like Mark Hughes all over again. Trying to build a squad to get into his way of doing things but then sacked soon rather than later.

It seems to me that the Liverpool fans and board have forgotten that last year they were lucky to qualify for europe. Only two points in front of thier Merseyside rivals and as long as the two clubs are in the same points region as Everton they really don't have anything to complain about. Roy Hodgson has displayed the same skills as David Moyes with the limited budgets between them.

Hopefully SAF puts out a 2nd string team and they give Liverpool a good seeing to and be the end of this farce, well actually no I hope he is still there for the derby even after Blackpool sort them out as well.

Are you being serious? Comparing Roy Hodgson with Moyes!!

Moyes has done infinitely better with the resources at his disposal.

How can someone 'do okay at certain clubs' and yet be 'tactically inept'?

Because at certain clubs playing back to the wall doesn't require much tactical knowledge, certainly not at the level he played it, maybe Joses parking the bus can qualify as good tactics.

I see that Hodgson is still firmly planted as the Liverpool manager.

What is amusing is that a lot of Liverpool fans want to see Liverpool lose badly, in hope that Hodgson will get the boot after such a shocking result. The not-so-amusing side of this is that Hodgson still remains. No matter how badly he loses, the guy will not quit.

I'm always one to allow a manager time to settle and prove his worth, but he has had 5 months and the results are pretty much identical to those he had when he first started. With this in mind, the guy has to go.

I think the best thing that can happen for Liverpool is if they lose horrifically badly when they play Man Utd on Sunday. If this happens, I can't see how the Liverpool board can allow him to manage Liverpool for even another game.

The worst thing that can happen for Liverpool is if he wins against Man Utd. He would argue that beating the current best side in England would justify his position as Manager of LFC.

Sunday's result will be interesting.

I have to disagree here. Liverpool are a "bigger" club. Last year, I would say the had a poor season by their standards. This meant that Everton were within touching distance. This may have been the reason of Benitez's departure. Had he finished in the top 4 say (which is what many expect Liverpool to be able to do), would he have left?

In any case, Hodgson has entered the fray and has turned Liverpool into a middle-of-the-table team, which is only 4 points away from the relegation zone. As a Man Utd fan, I would hate to see a new manager take over at Man Utd and then have the sort of start that Hodgson has had. Had Hodgson done to Man Utd, what he has done to Liverpool, He wouldn't have made it past Christmas, at which point I'm sure Fergie would've been asked to return as caretaker manager, until a permanent replacement could be found.

At the end of the day, the fact is that this is one of the worst seasons Liverpool have had in recent years. I believe Hodgson is a good manager but for whatever reason, it just isn't working out at Liverpool. Sometimes a manager simply has to accept that it isn't working out and resign with some dignity.

With regards to Moyes, I feel that Moyes/Everton have been punching above their weight in recent years and are now beginning to establish themselves as a permanent fixture in the top 8. When they start finishing in the top 6, they will no longer be thought of as "lucky" or punching above their weight. Moyes is a VERY good manager and Everton will do well to hang on to him for the VERY long term, just as Arsenal and Man Utd have held on to theirs.

Its more to do with the price of going to a game these days + travel for about 40% of the ground. Its a lot easier to dig deep when you respect the manager and the tactics being employed.

Absolute rubbish. Moyes has operated on an incredibly limited budget. Hodgson has three world class players at his disposal (Reina, Gerrard, Torres) and multiple players on big wages. To suggest the two have "displayed the same skills" is laughable.

I agree with most of sunama's post but I don't see that Hodgson has turned Liverpool into a mid table team.

Honestly...

The situation when he took the job is not different to the situation now. The squad and spirit are more or less the same.

The point is Hodgson has not been able to turn it around, which is a failing. But, he has not "ruined this party"!

Who is going to come in and wave the wand!?!?

You think?
We had bad results last year but the commitment was there, we still controlled games.
We dropped something like 18 points to goals conceded after 85 mins.
Now? Away from home especially, we'r out of the game after 60.

If thats not down to Roy then i dont know what is.

Will results improve? yes!, especially away from home. Roy cannot win away from Home.
Being unable to win with Fulham, Liverpool, Inter, Blackburn away from home suggests its a Roy problem, not a club problem.

Additionally, i expect the football would improve. Roy's tactics are so old hat, watching Liverpool play now is like watching Liverpool's opponents in the 80's. Its 'old school' english 4-4-2, and frankly if it worked so well, why is Roy the only manager at any ambitious club to use it?
