Royal International Air Tatoo 2010

AH cool, so you could park on that road between them? I found a lot of the roads were closed off. Looks like a good spot, I'll keep it in mind:)

No doubt it's too late now, but no you can't park on any roads in that area, but along that road is small field with park and view for £5.

Took some screencaps from some videos that were taken, they aren't very good, I'm just showing how close they are when they fly past or come into land...

Ah cool, good to see a different view of them. Were many of them turning overhead? We were in quite a good position at the west end with most of the planes pulling a tight turn either in front or behind us. Not so great in front of us as I have lots of shots of undercarriages! But Got some great shots of the tops when they were upside down, i.e. the pic of the raptor in my thread.

Yes, those shots were obviously as they were landing, and they flew just to the left, although some pilots came in at and angle so flew right above us and very low. And the aircraft would turn just to the right of us as they would fly down just north of the runway to do their display.

These are a few of my pics. I know I'm a proper amateur when it comes to taking photos. Its with a £130 compact digi Fujifilm F70EXR so dont moan about quality please, lol. Highlights for me were Vulcan, never seen one airbourne before, dutch F16, Airbus A400M, C17 Globemaster, but the one that stole the show for sure was the F22 Raptor, unbelievable! Glad I went.

Good thread. I especially like the landing shots... it must have been a great experience up there!

Here are some of mine stuffed temporarily through Picasa. I need sleep... at least until the traditional post-airshow cramp in both calves drags me kicking & screaming back to a state of awareness! :-)

Sunday was grotty but strangely rewarding.

And for those who didn't make it on Saturday, this is what better conditions look like.

PS If Mad Jay's reading this after a busy weekend at the dyeworks, here's the team tour bus with some aircraft or other in the foreground. :->

Some great pics above, thanks.

I always used to cycle to Fairford and watch from the Whelford end of the runway, approximately here. There isn't really anywhere to park a car, but it's where you get all the planes flying really low overhead as they come in to land

The last two years, I've paid the farmer at Rhymes Farm near Marston Meysey and used his 'Park & View' field, which IMO is the best place to watch as the planes come right overhead whilst doing their displays. Also when they land, they come right past you as the main taxiway exit is right in front of you. It's superb for getting photos, plus there's loads of space and you can bring a BBQ.

This year I was really busy so only got to go for a couple of hours on the Saturday, so went to the 'Spotted Cow' at Marston Meysey. You get a pretty decent view from their beer garden. We were there for about an hour but luckily timed it just right to see the F-22 display and the Vulcan display.

Didn't make it this year, it's lots of fun though.

The F22s were at Lakenheath last week and are apparently coming back on Wednesday so I'll be spending the day up there to try and see them!

I went along on Saturday in the end. It was a really good day! Set off at 0645 and arrived at the traffic queue at around 0845. Was in place next to the air strip before 1000 and stayed beyond 1800, so missed nothing :)

However, I am tempted to write a letter to the organisers about the ridiculous traffic signal system. Tens of thousands of hours of people's time wasted because the traffic signals held the direction without traffic green for seemingly just as long as the direction with traffic. Being stationary in a queue for 5 minutes with only a single bus coming the other way was a little frustrating! If I would have had to queue on the dual carriageway as well I'd have probably gone mad, but I just drove in the other lane and joined the queue about 500 yards before the exit.

I was there saturday and sunday. It took 4 hours to get out on Saturday in the car and got me so mad I drove home to Sheffield to get the bike to ride in on Sunday with. That meant not using to local hotel I'd booked which I'll lose the money on, but it was not worth doing that again.
I think next year I'll stay in Totterdown Farm as those guys seemed to get all the aircraft directly overhead.
