Royal-looking letter

if you were taking "pub facts" as truth, could you be hanged for opening your dad's mail if you have the same name?

My dad always opens stuff for me that just gets addressed to "Mr. Coombs" and I hate answering the phone when it's someone saying "hi, is mr. coombs there" because it's usually for my dad and he's usually out of the country.

Well no.....it isn't.
It's a bit of an urban myth that the death penalty "in theory" still exists for certain crimes.
Usually people say something along the lines of "Did you know that technically you can still be hung for Treason in the UK"?
This is actually "Pub Facts" and not actually tue - it has been some 15 years (I believe) since the last technicality was removed.

On-Topic
Still bang out of order opening mail addressed to anyone but yourself.
Me and the wife will open each other's mail but usually only bills or if we are waiting for something in particular.
We still won't touch each others "unknown" mail - well I might have booked a surprise for her or something.

Wrong!

Only one place in the UK keep capital punishment in place but has used other metods of punishment to avoid it due to the issues it'll bring up but it's the

IOM, they will hang you if you **** them off enough!

Main one is they boot you off the the irland in 48 hours never to return again and it's made very publicy know with a front page spread and 2 news channles then everything in scous land!

Watch the swearing

is it still ok to shoot a welshman with a bow and arrow within the walls of chester on a sunday?

I think the hitch is that the law is still there in black and white but obviously that murder law thing that we got going sorta overrides the bow and arrow one... so technically no. :)

'Tis a shame though.

There is no capital punishment in the UK and there hasn't been an execution for over 40 years. It wasn't until the late 1990s that capital punishment was removed from statute for Treason.

Haha at all the people so mad about him opening a letter.

It's not just any letter though. It's a rare one that the receipts are designed to open and read.

It's like having someone else open your exam results or something.

No... I dont wanna disclose all of the letters' details but it was more of a confirmation letter and NOT for my parents, for my grandparents.. I really doubt a big hand written letter from the queen would come in a small envelope addressed to my dad..

My dad phoned me back from his office before I opened it and he knew what it was .. no problems.

Just leave it people... just wanted to know if it was fake or if anyone knew about it.

Oh and thanks for all the insults

No need for the swearing & insults, cool off for a couple of days

:D

Actually that law is still in place. However more recent laws over ride this. I'm guessing with an extremely good lawyer you could possibly be able to get off free for it.

Well you said it had your Dad's name on, so pardon us for making the logical presumption that it was regarding your Dad. :p
