Royal Mail problems/delayed mail

I almost forgot, about 3 years ago our front door was one of them double glazed affairs that you'd have to lock if you wanted to stop people wandering in. The postman for some reason decided to open my front door and hurl my mail down the hallway, I was sitting in the living room and nearly poo'd when I saw some letters come sliding into view.

it amazes me how you can order and receive something from Hong Kong within 3 days and you can't always get this level of service from Royal Mail in this country

Another story from my brother. He was sitting in his living room on Saturday morning when he heard the postman walkdown his drive (gravel). Next thing he knew the postman deliverd a 'you were out card' through his letterbox. He didn't even try to knock or ring the doorbell once! Before he could unlock the door and open it the cheeky postman disappeared!

how big was the item in question? the shop i worked in was adjacent to a sorting office so i would often see the staff sorting the post. depending on how busy the rounds were they would often write the cards before going out on delivery because they did not have the space in their bags, or if the item was awkward to carry.

He did not tell me how big, so I do not know. So maybe they were in the right or not, who knows.

The thing is this has been happening more over the past 4 months or so. I'm relieved in a way it's not just us, but we've just had the IR come round to query us for not paying, which is a bit irritating and a waste of our and their time. Furthermore I do like sending letters and cards, especially over festive seasons, and birthdays and so on. I'm getting very wary of sending money via the post, or waiting for bills or insurance renewals etc...

We've had first class recorded deliveries taking over a week and a half lately. It's awful.

I remember in work one time I got a letter back in a royal mail plastic bag saying sorry it was damaged.

I was pretty curious what had happened to it, nearly half of the letter had been burnt and started breaking apart inside the plastic bag. So I got a pile of ash and half an envelope.

Apart from that I haven't had much problems, but I don't think i'll trust them with me posting my computer to Scotland later on in the year.

We've had a lot of stuff turning up either late, or opened.

A couple of cards arrived a few weeks ago, that had been opened and the stuff (cheques in this case) taken. I'm very aware now of what I post after that incident.

We (and the entire road) also keep getting next door's post - very annoying. All this started happening since our usual postwoman (who was good) went :(

After loads of RMAs for my graphics cards down to exceptionally bad luck, i made the mistake of sending one off first class instaead of special delivery to save a bit of doh, but never again.

I asked for recorded delivery. the parcel arrived about 7 days late and the period in between sending it and it being recieved made me very anxious. also although it got sent recorded delivery it never actually got confirmed signed for so their tracking system doesnt even work either. very very poor. i hate to think what else gets very delayed or lost.

I would love to set up a company which would beat RM witha good service at a great price.

Just don't have the capital, :(

Yep,

I get regular parcels from HK, and they take 7 - 10 days. Royal mail can't even get my mail from half way across the UK ontime. I've lost countless items in the post. Royal mail are just plain bad at the moment. I even had one of their van drivers abuse me in their own carpark once, swearing and revving his engine at me.. Nearly ran me over as well, very rude, put a complaint in, told to basically take my package and go..

Very bad company IMO. Yet, what can I do.. Most of my stuff is sent via Royal mail, so I have to put it with it.

It amazes me, it really does. We pay for this service, and get bad service..

The company I work for sells vouchers, which seemed to do quite well over christmas. But a lot of people never received them, bearing in mind these people have paid for them with a credit/debit card over the phone.

These same people then shout down the phone at us...we offer special delivery as well but nobody wants to use that as they seem to think we make lots of money on it. Whreas in fact it goes to Royal Fail and covers packaging etc.

Its just not reliable. I know in other areas commissions were set up to ensure minimum standards of service. I can tell you BT have improved here since OFTEL started getting on their case..in particular with regard to broadband bandwidth and dial up before that. I don't know if a similar organisation monitors our postal/courier services.

i live in hull and my postman seems to only deliver on tuesdays or wednesdays, ie, someone posted soemthing to me recorded delivery on a thurday, arrived the following wednesday

nice :(

Can't say I have any problems with getting or sending post.
TBH our local office are a stellar bunch - friendly, very helpful when picking up parcels from them, consistently here around the same time, every Ebay sale I have sent out no problems for the buyers when using our local post office. Personally I can't praise them enough and don't know how they do it for the price of a stamp.

I just had an item go missing I bought on ebay. The envelope turned up (had been opened by the Royal mail), the item removed, and in its place were 2 packs of blood glucose testing strips for diabetic people. So somewhere, some diabetic person is waiting for these things and they will never turn up. I'll never get my item, so my only recourse is to put these things back on ebay.

Trouble with Roayl Mail is they have twice as many staff as they need and each one works half as hard as he should.

Generally when you get the mail in a plastic bag. the box they leave the mail in for the postie to collect has been broken into and the mail stolen.

SCM

I wish I could even recieve stuff sent special delivery. I've had so many problems that anything bigger than an envelope gets sent to an alternate address.
