Royal Mail Strikes for the Next Two Weeks

Booner! said:
so can somebody sum up that rather long explanation of the strikes in the OP?

They are not going to deliver post from tomorrow onwards , finishing the 8th?
Tomorrow: Delivery as normal, don't bother posting anything.
Thursday: No Deliveries, Don't bother posting anything
Friday: Delivery
Saturday: No deliveries

as said, the royal fail really makes me laugh, i now have no confidence with them. i try and avoid them as much as possible, paying bills online, sending things recorded and special so i at least know if it gets there.
wont be long till its just another company thats gone down the plug.

My old postman was a COMPLETE and utter numpty, and i'm not just talking late deliveries, wrong mail etc. He would without fail deliver special delivery items after 1pm (even though he delivered the normal mail earlier than 12, he'd leave all packages in his car and do another round). I'd get mail from streets way all the time. I ended up complaingin to the royal mail and it looks like they have done something about it as we now have a new mailman who is very polite and doesn't mess up such a simple job!

the worst part is that instead of sitting there playing cards, watching films etc like I did for the last two strikes I'm gonna have to do staff training

I didn't realize we had one amongst us.

Grab the sticks with flames at once!

I was jsut about to wonder about some books I ordered fom Amazon and when they wold likely turn up, then remembered that Amazon don't use Royal Mail anymore :D

Our postie is great, always have a char with him if I'm in and unless it needs a signature he leaves the parcels for us hidden away undercover to save hassle. (yes probably the hassle of him taking them back to the sorting office, but who cares :D )

Problem is that if posties that didnt care crossed the picket lines in small communities you'd have problem with their colleagues hating them :p

they do, kinda.

its called down stream access. Couriers act independently but only royal mail has the infrastructure to actually delivery mail. So you TNT for example gets the money for the sorting out the mail piece, but they give a proportion of that money to royal mail. The amount they give us depends on how much of the work we do.

Different companies logos may be on the front of letters (UK mail, TNT, etc) but royal mail handles all letters at some point.

And that is partly why RM is going down the pan, they have to handle letters from other companies and make a loss while they are at it.

My postman delivers everything to my address, but not very quickly usually...

I waited an extra 2 days for something I paid extra to have delivered quickly, then as I was asleep when he finally came, he left one of those "You were out" notes, which had the wrong code on so I couldn't arrange a new delivery, or to have it moved to my local post office, or anything. Yay!

From looking at it

Tomorrow: Delivery as normal, don't bother posting anything.
Thursday: No Deliveries, Don't bother posting anything
Friday: Delivery Maybe
Saturday: No deliveries

Past that, god knows.

That's crap, I have a job application form i need to post (hand fill in forms so no emails) to post tomorrow.....is that mean the only way i want to post it is with special delivery ?

Send it special delivery but don't count on it arriving :(
Your best bet is to send it using a courier. It will probably cost you a bit more but you can almost guarantee it will arrive.

Yeah they just say they'll only 'attempt' to delivery Special Delivery so no gaurantees.

I sent some during the last strike via special delivery and it was still delivered the next day so I dont think all mail is affected.
