Royal Mail Strikes for the Next Two Weeks

Fantastic news the strike and all that. I hope my daughter first passport doesnt get caught up in it, or she'll be home alone for 10 days while we go awayand she's only 15 months old!!! LOL

Didn't receive any post on Saturday, none today either.

How do we know if our postman's on strike or if we simply have no mail? We usually get at least one letter a day so I presume he's on strike. Very annoying as I'm expecting a couple of things from t'bay.

Call you local mail centre/sorting office.
I went down there on Saturday (there were a bunch of workers outside blowing whistles etc) and asked if I have any post waiting, and his reply was to the tune of "I have no idea and I'm not going to bother trying to find out" (of course it wasn't actually like that, but that's the vibe I got from him and I didn't find out if I had post waiting)

I got a package from HK via airmail quicker than RM can deliver a package 300 miles and it only cost 0.66p to send it. Then they have the cheek to strike?
I got a dvd parcel from HK quicker then RM deliver letters, and postage was free :p

Through no fault of my own (, well perhaps I should have looked out for myself a bit better) I delivered 2 days worth of mail today. That said, no one address really had a 'huge' amount waiting for them. Also considering how much mail actually came in this morning I can only assume the Mail centres have already caught up with the backlog.

Unfortunately this damned strike business starts again tomorrow evening.

Funnily enough I don't think I've ever had such good service. On Saturday I ordered a blank Blu-Ray BD-RE disk from a Jersey company and it arrived this morning. Their service usually takes 3-5 days.

Good for you rollins, and good on any others that cross the picket line to do what is right. Im sure no one will disagree that the anger isn't targeted towards you or anyone else doing their job during the strike. Its the union, and the people joining in for the sake of it that we are annoyed at. If they don't like the pay and conditions, then start looking for another job as im sure there are a lot of Polish workers that would do it without complaint.

Quoted For The Truth :)
Quoted for mutual ignorance more like.
The whole reason these people are striking is because their job security is in jeopardy.

And I pointed out that your opinion flies in the face of the facts. :)
Not sure what you mean by 'flies in the face of the facts' but I presume you mean he's wrong - but opinions can't be wrong, only different ;)

An opinion can fly in the face of facts, and can be wrong.

I could be of the opinion that 2 + 2 = 5. I would be wrong.

That's hardly an opinion though, is it...

You know exactly what I mean, you're just being difficult :p If some thing's your opinion, it's not up to anybody to say your opinion's wrong. It's your opinion, not somebody else's.

You would be surprised how many of us don't agree with the strike, and are voting with our feet - towards the sorting offices.

Myself and Karen will be in tomorrow, as well as any strike days. I'm not in the habit of voting No on industrial action, and then not seeing my decision through. I don't agree with how the union have gone about this, and their decision to strike should have been the very very last option. Unfortunately I believe that the strike is politically based (New PM, union trying to assert its position) and while RM is not helping the situation with not joining in meaningful discussion, only a madman would disagree that Royal Mail needs to modernise its practices.

I would like to hope that all OcuK members are aware that some people do, are and continue to work hard in getting their mail through the system. Crossing a picket line is no small order, and there are repercussions after all the strikes are sorted. Some colleagues will see this as a betrayal, and I'm fully prepared to be ignored by more than several people on the shop floor.

Must be a tough thing to do. :( Thankfully our 'striking' union staff seem to be seeing it as a nice day off and there's no line at my DO.

Job security is in jeopardy regardless what happens. I'm a relative new comer to RM, and as such I'm fully aware if it comes to job cuts on a last in/first out policy, I'll be on my way. I've experienced redundancy before and I know there's no such thing as a job for life. Not even as a postman working for a company that's finding itself being lowered in to a six foot hole, I'm afraid.

For the time being though, I have a job which I occasionally enjoy and more importantly I have bills to pay. The Union no doubt has it's own agenda here, as does Royal Mail, but I'll just keep on delivering till the fat lady sings.

Yes it is.

It could be my opinion that black people are worse at sprinting than white people.

If the best sprinters in the world are black, fact, my opinion is wrong.

You're being difficult as well. You know exactly what I mean and I'm not going to start arguing to prove it. Next subject, please.
