Royal Mail Strikes for the Next Two Weeks

for ***** sake, i should have had a router (RMRD) on thursday last bloody week, and it still hasn't turned up, mabye if the buggers did they're job properly, and delivered the mail even romotely close to time they'd have a reason to strike

ditto, I'm waiting on a router also, it was sent first class like 5/6 days ago, can't use my macbook wirelessly until I get it :( .

The posties may only have been on strike one day, but the delivery drivers (who carry the mail from one depot to another) where on strike on a different day, and the sorting offices on a third day.

yep, also just because the sorting office is on strike for one day that doesnt nessecerly mean that makes the mail only one day late as it creates a back-log that can take days to sort out.

Couldnt help but laugh at the sheer ineptness of this so called Royal mail...they really havent a clue. First time ive ever had a problem with them i have to admit...usually they are spot on.
So, one problem and it's enough to call them inept? Despite the fact that you finish the sentence saying they are usually spot on..

I haven't read this entire thread, but I wonder if we could get our money back for delivery etc. I ordered something on a website that stated that it was to be delivered on Friday, and still I have nothing :/

Then refrain from being a muppet in the future :).

Royal mails service imo has slipped drastically over the last lot of years, it used to be you had your post early in the morning, at the latest maybe 8.30, now it lands in the hallway around lunchtime if you're lucky.

I remember last year i was at my cousins and the postman came trotting around the doors at 3pm.

yeah, in our current house they used to arrive before i went to school (pre 7.30) which was great, as there was ALWAYS someone in. but now were lucky if they come before 9/10 meaning anything to big to fit has to be re-delivered/picked up.

and were talking this drastic change in the space of 3/4 years

it's just not good enough, and i really hope they get some decent enough oppsoition otherwise this crap service will continue

1-1.30pm is when the mail normally hits my door mat, really annoying as sometimes it would be handy to get the mail before leaving the house,

also on another note, I've just spoke to royal mail asking them why I've been receiving letters but no parcels, apparantly this is because most of the letters that people are receiveing atm are of the automated type that don't require handlers.

So is it best to send mail with typed addresses at the moment so they are machine readable?

IIRC one of the complaints the posties are striking over is the changes that will make that the norm, rather than the exception.

I believe RM management want the postmen to start work later (saving on some shift allowances/unsociable hours allowances), which means they will start deliveries later.
They want to cut down the total number of posties, which means the remaining ones have to do longer routes, about 20% longer per postie (so they take longer to complete).

It could be argued that a large part of the reason posties are striking, is to try and keep the service at at least the same level it was (IIRC the changes over the past few years have been down to management changing the way the posties work, rather than it being the fault of the posties themselves that your post is getting later and later).

Its best to send with typed addresses all the time, the machines just use OCR technology and a weird database. If this fails a picture is sent to a Manual Data Entry Keyer and they type in the address.
Thanks.

a lot of people in this thread have absolutely no understanding of the issues, and just choose to knock posties instead.

it was a critisism against the entire system of mail delivery, not aimed at just the posties, the posty we have is a decent enough chap, and comes at pretty much the same time every day

i can't be bothered to go through 10 pages of this thread and count, but a lot of the posts basically say, "******* posties, they are rubbish, don't deserve their money, DO YOUR JOB!!!"

i think this is because people bunch the entire spectrum of royal mail workers under the much more comprehensable term of 'posty'

What i was going to say.

Bit silly really leaving everything so late your passport is due to arrive the day before you leave, especially considering how useless the passport office can be with processing the damn things.

I make sure I always have a currently valid passport, when it's due to run out, I renew it for another 10 years.

Don't see why people even bother only doing it just before they need it.

Yeah I got the boat over and then was flying back and needed my passport.

I forgot it at home (have never done this before!) but that shouldn't matter as the Royal Mail have a guaranteed service which they should be able to provide when they make that guarantee. As it turns out the posty turned up with it just before it was too late to leave.

It's the wildcat strikes that are most annoying, actually.
