Just been out in one for an hour, all I can say is WOW! I have somepics I will post later but jesus! how can a bage be that fast! The grip traction and sheer speed was amazing. Cant beleave how well it handled, obviously it turned a bit slow, but the stering was positive and there was sooo much grip it was immense. Couldent beleave how fast we were chucking it round bends!
My mate is a lucky boy, he's 21 ownes a garage with his dad and his daily driver for the next 2 weeks in an RS6! :D
As soon as I work out how to use my W810i I will stick pics up.

Barges for the win!!!

Possibly because it has a wacking great twin turbo charged 4.2 V8 under the bonnet spitting out 450BHP. :)

Lovely cars I must admit. Pass one everyday on my way to work (he goes the other way and always boots it when he hits a national speed limit - sounds so nice)

slightly O/T but what's the gossip on the next version of the RS6?
has it gone on sale already?
spec?

surely the M5's power output will have to be topped in this race the Germans seem to have going with each other at the moment?

Because it's a heavy car, and no doubt suffers from having a 50:50 power distribution, a typical nose-heavy audi layout, and numb steering

isn't the power distribution 60:40?
do you happen to have the weight distribution figures to hand?

presume its 50-50 on that one or close to it, only the new RS4 thats slightly tail happy. Its wasnt numb, just felt a bit nose heavy. It does have a big whacking engine sitting a bit far forward.

i can't see the M5 lump being much lighter, although granted the Audi has the extra weight of diff+halfshafts up there a the front.

did you turn up any weight distribution figures?
i looked for a while but as i told crazy moose (sorry, i mean R124/LA420 ;) ) my google skills are weak.

I love the RS6. A truely insane car, and worthy of it's awesome name.

If I had one, I'd put it on 17's, de-badge it and win every traffic-light shoot out ever against unsuspecting chavs/boy racers. Actually, I doubt I'd take the big rims off.

On another note, about a month ago I was doing ~70 on an NSL with a fool tailgaiting me in a 3 series BMW. All of a sudden a yellow, extremely sexy MTM S4 estate booted past both of us and disappeared into the distance. He must've got upto at least 120! The sound it made was sex. I want one. :(

The RS6 was the most disappointing car I've driven. I had massive expectations and was just left thinking.... oh
It was quick in a straight line alright but in the corners it's excessive weight was obvious. Steering communication was non-existant, it was way too assisted and 'light'. The gearbox (auto) was shocking, one of the worst I've encountered, and it had this annoying 'feature' when taking off from standstill, like it wasn't ready to launch (a dangerous delay).
Grip-wise in the dry it wasn't a match for my own car*, but I imagine in the wet it's four wheel traction may have won out - I say "may" as the excessive understeer may have negated the benefits of the 4WD.
And it was way too quiet - it just made no noise from the inside. Way too sound-proofed.
A car I really looked forward to driving, expecting a manic hardcore weapon. Certainly not what it is.

*compared to my CSL.

edited to say it was the Avant I played with, not the saloon.

to be fair though, it's aimed at a totally different demographic than your own car.
hardly surprising you found it a disappointment IMHO.

Back in a minute ! :o

I love the RS6 and with a bit of wedge on my side, it would be one of the first cars I bought. They are an awesome piece of kit and superb performance you can use everyday.

Vorsprung Durch Teknik for the win !

Didnt find that with this one, was shocked how well it handled for a barge and the box was fine didnt find any delay (unlike my dads grande espace which has about 2 seconds literally), the handleing wont be anywhere near a CSL but that can be expected, it is huuuuuge.
If I was rich, it would be my family car I reckon.

I've stayed out of this thread because usually people don't tend to understand my opinion about the RS6.. but I pretty much agree with Elliot. The RS6 is awesomely fast, and when you are pushing it really puts a grin on your face with the way it just gobbles up the tarmac. But when you aren't going full bore it really is, for want of a better word, really rather boring. There's no feel to the car, no soul, nothing there apart from point and shoot A to B speed.. there's no grin inducing fun to be had by chucking it round at relatively low speeds.

There's nothing wrong with that per se. The TT is exactly the same (although slower :)).. A great car to drive.. knowing that you can boot it around as and when you want to.. but lacks any real involvement.

Every car is a compromise.. but to me the RS6 just isn't an all round great car.. it's just a way to get stuff from A to B at insane speeds.. with little or no fun on the way.

The new RS4 is a massive step in the right direction for Audi though.. so hopefully the new RS6 will raise the bar too, I really have a soft spot for Audis :)
