Few pictures from my fathers garage today of the 1985 911 that he's turning into an RSR replica if anyone is interested. Should have taken a load of pics at the start, a load of work has gone into this already believe it or not -

He done another complete restore last year (will try and dig out the before, during and after pics), sold the car for just under 20k on pistonheads to a guy in Germany, seen it re-advertised back on there a few months later going through auction with a reccomended price of 36k! So he's going to be holding out for more on this one :)

**edit** 12 year edit, update in the latest post with pics of finished car and link to the thread with some progress pics along the way. A bit shocking reading the £20k and £36k figures today.... 3-4x those figures now :D

Epic, you can see the work gone in already.

I would have skipped the replica plan and just brought it back to original but epic none the less.

I think he's going down the RSR route due to the silly amounts they go for, you can virtually set the price yourself and hold out for a buyer as they are so rare. This one has had all the engine fully rebuilt it's just the body work which needs a complete resotre, which is my father's area of expertise. I'll have to dig out the last one he done, got loads of photos of that, you'd be amazed looking at the shell at the start comparing to the finished pics :)

I dont think there is much epicness in butchering a classic 911 to make it a 'replica' of something it isnt :(

What he is doing is not the same as making a 540 into a M5 look a like.

If done properly not only will it be worth a few quid but it will be epic.

Its not my cup of tea but epic it will be if he does the proper job on it.

Edit, i just see the man says its being done right, in which case thats money in the bank right there.

The bodywork needs a complete restore anyway, the engine has had a full rebuild but apart from that it's basically just a bare shell, the RSR replicas go for silly money fully restored.

He's specialised in restoring Porsches for years, I'll make sure I get the pics up when it's all finished, I'll do my best to dig out pics of the last one he done tonight.

RSR is one of the iconic cars from the 911 range for good reason. The IROC versions are worth a small fortune and the replicas that cary high values are because they are built to a massively high standard and manufactured to very high standards. Good luck with it, I am not a fan of replicas but I can see why driving around in an RSR look alike, one assumes that has all the RSR bits too and engine would be total fun. Those wheels need to go though.

This is where you need to get....and then there's the inside and that engine. Only 49 built, THAT is why the cost so much.

Win is before your eyes.

Yea them wheels are ****ing up the job.

I like the wheels my self, suit the car - they cost a small fortune too, the rear tyres were £350 each. Cant remember cost of the wheels, will check with my father when he gets in now - think they were £2k.

I've found some pics from the last 911 restore he done so bare with me whilst I upload them.

Housey, that is full of win - especially the color and the wheels ;) Tell me about the price on the engines, my father had some genuine RSR pistons years ago (I think) which were worth a small fortune, I'll wait till he gets back from the pub to give exact details.

Here are 2 finished pics of the last one, sold for £18.5k to Germany where it went to auction with a reccomended 36k price, so this time be holding out for more (excuse the bad picture quality!)

That car needs the fuchs alloys like the blue one Housey just posted.

Edit, and the one you just put up :)

Where's the best place for free image hosting? I've got a load of progress pics from the finished one above if anyone is interested?

Photobucket, stick them up on that.

can understand totally why you'd need to make your own RSR.

Only 49 built means the chances of being able to find one for sale, let alone afford it, are very slim.

Such an iconic car, but so rare. No more wrong than the AC Cobra or GT40 replicas imo.

Its still not my cup of tea but in my opinion its one up from normal replicas because it is a Porsche to start.

AC replicas have got about as much in common with an AC Cobra as a Proton, if you get what i mean.
