RTS/Sim time waster required....

And I have exactly the same one too! :)

Hardly ever used it. Last remember using it on a space sim and shows how long ago that was. When are we getting another space sim? :)

you can do more things at once with a joystick ie poull back + tilt + rotate all at the same time so you can pull moves you can't with only a mouse/kb.

I can do that with a mouse and keyboard easily :)

To me a joystick just helps immersion, it won't make you play better. You get more precision with some controls, but less with others. I know when it comes to aiming I'd rather have a mouse :p

Quite into X3 though haven't played for a few weeks - got bored with The Hub campaign. While there are strategic elements to the gameplay, however IMHO it's more hands on than a God style RTS which may be what the OP had in mind.

Not sure if it will be everyone's cup of tea but The Sims 3 will be out in a few weeks, might be worth waiting for that?

While the sentiments may belong in one of the gaming nostalgia threads, the games I do miss are in the style of the old "Battleground" series (Ardennes, Gettysbury, Shiloh etc). Turn based so you had time to think and plan but incredibly compelling!

Download the 2.0a patch now so you are ready to go when it arrives
Downloaded it in work yesterday and took it home on my Archos last night (no interweb in my flat yet :()

bah mine hasn't arrived :(

hope it comes tomorrow :(

Same :(

Shows how good OcUK are... ordered the game and the joystick on the same day... OcUK's package turns up not even 18 hours later... It'll be 4 days before I get my game...

lol :o

yeah same except i ordered the game a day before the joystick which has still beaten it :(

that joystick is ace though already raised the palm rest and adjusted the tilt on the buttons to get it uber comfy :D

Online FAQ + Instructions :D :p

It's got a pretty nasty learning curve (I'd say it is vertical, but its not, its slightly sloped backwards ;))
I've uploaded the PDF of the manual so you can check it out here. I'd try and get a basic understanding of the mechanics of flying about, going through the menus and getting missions.

Feel free to bug me for more specific things here or on msn or something if you want. :)

Cool I'll probably be posting billions of "aghhh how do i avoid the planet!!"
type questions. :p

thanks for the manual :D

oh I'll find a way :(

I always fail epically at games that require a joystick at first, first time i went on combat flight simulator i managed to flip the plane sideways on the runway >.<

Did get awesome at the old x-wing and tie fighter games though :D

when you get a capitol ship go you still pilot it with the joystick etc?

Whats that like :D

edit: it is slightly worrying that the manual starts with

"say goodbye to a social life and/or sleep"

Also very promising too :p

Yeh you can pilot any ship you own. Capital ships are very sluggish.
I've not had any destroyers or carriers yet in Terran Conflict, but I'd imagine they are the same as X3, very slow to turn, and annoying to fly through a busy sector without hitting things and then being hated by the locals!
The M7 Frigates are far more flyable, and these still dwarf the Corvettes and Fighters. Such huge level of scale in this game :)
