OK, I'm branching out from StarCraft here and am looking for an RTS with a great community and a very good 2v2/3v3 style of play for when I want a more casual experience.

I've played a few RTS games but never given any a long go online bar starcraft so feel free to suggest any RTS game and I'll give the most popular recommendation a good go online.

PC specs:

E6600 @3.65Ghz but usually run at 3.4 to keep it under 45 degrees.
XFX 8600GT XXX (mildly overclocked by default)
6GB RAM
Vista business 64bit

Cheers ladies.

"ladies" :p

Anyhow, I can't really give much insight but i'm pretty interested in what people have to say about the subject too. I get the impression that the community for DoW is pretty decent but I'd rate that as 'casual play only' really.

I'm happy for a change of pace and style, in fact it's what I'm after.

Whats the supcom community liek and if my graphics card ok for it?

My screens are:

18"
1280*1024
NVidia 6200 PCI card

20"
1680*1050
XFX 8600GT XXX

But aside from zoom in and zoom out, what are Sup Com's strengths as an RTS?

1st: No

2nd: Yes, at low-mid settings.

Assume you're dual-core?

They're both on the same PC, running dual monitors and was wondering if the 6200 was powerful enough to run a second screen in sup com.

Oops. I blame the hideous workload I had until just earlier :)

I think I ran SupCom on a 7800GTX with dual 21" CRT monitors at one point..but I may have upgraded to my 8800GTS640 by that point...

I'm running supcom with an x1950pro on med settings over a 1680x1050 and 1280x1024 res monitors on medium settings. It does crawl when dozens of units are on screen attacking, but at that point it's better to zoom out a bit and let the LoD lower and make it run smoother.

If the 6200 will run the second screen is only a slight possibility, maybe only if it is zoomed out completly at all times not letting it render any models or hi res textures.... it'll just be a big mini map then, but that is how i use my second monitor and i don't think i even look at it often.

On my second monitor I always have it completely zoomed out which ofc allows for higher fps.

Main strengths I would say are:
1.Massive scale battles across land, water and air.
2.Good online community.
3.Very few hacks/cheats are out for it.
4.An excellent expansion providing players with a whole new race and multiple new units for each previous race.
5.Gonna have to mention this again.....MASSIVE battles. 8 players = possible 8000 units on the map :p

You can, but I would suggest having atleast 4GB ram and a dual core at 3.6ghz and a large cache :p

Saying that, the game always run as slow as the slowest pc is running. So even if you have an awesome pc, some1 who runs a celery 1.5 will bring your game down to scraps :(

So Kreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee would be okay but my paltry 3.2 e64200 (4 mb cache) would struggle. Ah well :)

edit: Odd that it automatically puts a space in..I guess it reduces formatting breakage.

Nay wouldnt say that. I ran a 6300 at 3.4 with 2gb PC6400 ram and an x1950Pro with 8k units :) Just gotta make sure you keep the ai count down a bit as that munches cpu power.

That's how I'd use it. I could also rejig my setup so the 18" is run from the 8600 as well.

Why would you use AI in an online RTS game?

No true, you wouldnt. But if you wanted to have a skirmish game to get used to the concepts of it, then it may lag if you chose to have an all out WWWWWWAAAARRRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!
