RTS with the best online community?

It's only two clicks a second. And with waypointed just about everything in supcom you can do that with ease then rest for a while waiting for something to build and give that a series of commands.

It's 2 clicks a second for 20 minutes solid to begin to be competent. Watching the pro supcom videos it's a lot more sedate.

Sit there and do 2 clicks a second for 15 seconds. Then imagine that every click is an important move in an RTS game, with mouse movement too. Now double it for the very slowest pro's.

My wrist starts to hurt after 15seconds of constant commands though, i need the rest or a better mouse/desk. Damn ninja gaiden for giving me the early stages of carpel tunnel.

It's not just clicks though is it Kreeeee, you've gotta chuck keystrokes in there also. I wonder how many people spam control groupings in order to boost their apm higher than it really is in terms of useful actions?

No one spams for the sake of APM =/

The pro's try to maintain a constant pace throughout so the stay warmed up at the start if that's what you mean =/

In a game as responsive and micro intensive as starcraft APM is hugely critical up until 120ish APM.

Can I ask which supcom videos you've seen? I'd just like to see how they compare to the replays of top players I've seen.

The tournament videos from there.

Also read this and it pales in comparison to the intricacies of StarCraft but then I've not yet played the game properly:

I'd rather not turn this into a StarCraft vs SupCom debate though as there is absolutely no professional supcom scene anyway so it's pointless debating it.

Sure, I'm just saying there is still significant benefit from microing in SupCom/FA, so the top players still do it, but it's not a micro-fest like SC and you're right it's a slower pace. TBH from those videos you can't really tell what the players are doing (same goes with starcraft movies), whereas in a replay you can hold down shift and see all their move/attack orders, so for instance you can see they are zigzagging their units to avoid enemy fire etc.

Company of Heroes does have a strong community, and the new beta patch looks to be about to improve the game even more

Due to the nature of the game it isn't perfectly designed for the highly competative nature of some rts's (the better the ai the less control u have yourself so the older games in that sense are better for the simplicity) but as a fun game it is great... its still very tactical, but people whine that in a game where your tank shells can bounce off the enemies armour cannot be considered professional.. despite being more realistic

Got the gold edition now, installing it as I type.

Been looking at CoH as well actually but I really like having complete control over units and no luck involved. I suppose I should try it if I'm after variety.
