RTX 2080 - Dissapointing FPS

The reason I popped on:

Reinstalled again, re-installed drivers and getting over 200fps minimum in Overwatch now averaging around 250.

There was obviously an issue somewhere, but sure ting' it's the CPU Bottleneck Kappa. If I reduce the settings a little it hits the 300fps cap.

So much for the CPU Bottleneck eh? Don't know what happened on these forums, but you guys should go troll on the Linus forums instead.

Even though in 1440p you will be pretty much getting the exact same frames per second with epic settings.

This was our point all along, but I suppose you know better kappa.

100% agreed with masterOC above.

The 960M on my laptop has the frame rate dropped from minimum 45fps down to 40-42fps in a game after a recent driver update, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's some truth in the possibility of the OP's frame rate being lower than his mate's due to using different driver version...

Exactly, especially when the OP said his mate had the same Ryzen CPU,but with a GTX1080TI and saw better FPS.

Glad to see you solved your issue.

OP was talking about PUBG performance, he came back to tell us about something else entirely lol.

Either way, GPU usage is not always indicative that there isn't a CPU limitation. Especially in games such as PUBG which is fairly processor intensive. Measuring CPU efficiency is not quite as simple as that.

That's not to say it is a bottleneck. The least hair pulling conclusion would be to compare framerates with your chum at a higher resolution...

How can it be a CPU bottle neck if his graphics card is running full pelt (99%)

Its not even that - they said they only realised there was some issue, when their own mate with a Ryzen 7 2700X and a GTX1080TI was getting better framerates than their Ryzen 7 2700X and RTX2080 rig. The OP was comparing it to another Ryzen 7 2700X based rig,not someone with a Core i7 8700K.

If one Ryzen 7 rig was fine and the other was with similar speed graphics cards from the same company, that indicates there is something going wonky with the card or the drivers.

This reminds me of another thread yonks ago when someone had a R9 290/R9 290X and it was having problems, and many was saying it was time to ditch it,and didn't look at the symptoms. As a few of us suggested,it might have been something else like a cryptovirus, and it was. They removed it and the card was fine.

I posted that reply before reading the rest of the thread. Schoolboy error.

He also talked about Overwatch too - his mate was getting more FPS,which is the same issue they were having with PUBG and the same CPU. They re-installed the drivers and FPS went up.

Maybe in absolute FPS a Core i7 8700k would score more in both games, but in both cases, the OP is trying to match performance his mate is getting with the same CPU.

Also even if we go with the CPU angle as being correct,it won't explain why his mate's Ryzen 7 is faster,so it would mean we should be asking what RAM timings and sub-timings the OP is running and what his mate's Ryzen 7 is running at.

Dude you made the age old mistake of coming to OCUK GPU forum and making a negative comment about an Nvidia product.. its always carnage like a scene from the Walking Dead, the Nvidia Zombies will eat you alive lol :)

I'm sorry but you're talking crap, please refrain from posting on the forums to you get a clue. If the GPU is boosting to nearly 2k (board default boost is 1830) and the GPU is on 99/100% there is NOT a CPU issue you are part of the toxic idiotic forum trolls who think they know something but actually don't. The fact that i re-wiped the PC and everything is substantially faster would point to a bodged original driver install or /shrug who knows. But that sort of posting isn't helpful.

The only thing you're going to do is annoy people and start a rant bitching thread like the intel v amd // amd / nvidia // apple / windows type of crap people start.

Let me re-iterate for you:

IF THE GPU IS BOOSTING WELL BEYOND ITS ADVERTISED RATES AND RUNNING AT 99/100% IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO BE A CPU BOTTLENECK.

IF the GPU was 100% at 1000mhz that would be a different story wouldn't it?

@SilentScone, Yeah I checked with overwatch first as it's far better optimised for frame rates, didn't even check PUBG because the huge frame jump was evident as soon as playing OW.

@CAT-THE-FIFTH, Thanks for restoring my faith in humanity. And utterly correct, I wasn't amazingly happy with the FPS, and I was genuinely worried for when my QHD Monitor arrived it wouldn't deliver the performance I need. I aim to be around 140+ perma, even if it means medium/high graphics.

@tyler_jrb, I do know better, that's why I posted here, incase there's a bug I'm not aware of with the RTX card or the real world performance with launch cards are dog.

Just as a side note with this Card, I've only seen it go above 65oC during my Timespy Stress Test to which I gave 50 loop run, the result was a pass at 98.9% or something. It's boosting between 1950-2k with no real fan noise (the 4 fans on the rad at 900rpm overpower any noise it makes). Highly recommend it as a 2080 option, especially with the 5yr Warranty.

My timespy scores gone up by about 250 points since wiping too, on a side note, can't manually overclock this card at all, guess there's an issue with Afterburning or Firestorm atm (the zotac firestorm app doesn't even notice the 3 fans).

Calling me out as toxic then posting that ? Honestly . anyway have fun with your rants
