RTX 3090 purchased, can you please recommend me a 4k monitor?

+1 on the LG OLED recommendation -- if you have the space to sit back enough and don't have static elements on it 18 hours a day, it's a great pick.
Also +1 on the 38" UW recommendations. LG 38GL950G or 38GN950-B or the Alienware AW3821DW... or if you're feeling flush with money the PG35VQ or X35 are decent picks too, though you're paying more for a "better" HDR implementation (than the 38" models) that's still not good enough imho.

Hi all

So I joined the 3090 club, having got bored of waiting for stock of the 3080's and expecting the 3080-Ti to be the same.

Now I want a 4k monitor to do this card justice, currently I have a real nice AOC 34" Ultra-Wide 3440x1440 (its a superb monitor, will be keeping it) that I bought here from OcUK.

Can someone please recommend a 4k monitor that won't be a step down in size of the AOC I have? yes I realise its going to cost, but then I am used to my ultra-wide and don't want to go backwards in terms of viewing / size.

Thanks

I always upgrade at least two specs on a monitor otherwise I can feel a little disappointed that I didn't get a value for money upgrade, lol. I don't know which AOC you have but go for higher resolution and if you can higher refresh rate, or full HDR or ... you get the idea.

Been using mine 14+ hours a day for work, games, movies, TV since June. No sign of burn in, nor do I expect to see any for many years. I use a very low brightness that's comfortable for my eyes for work/desktop etc, then ramp up the brightness for movies/TV. Games are in the middle, HDR titles I run at high brightness, MMO's/RPG's I tend to run lower brightness.

The main point is this. Lets say there was an Asus 32" - 48" (or anywhere inbetween) that had the same specs. 4K, 120Hz, Infinite HDR, infinite contrast, no QA issues, no backlight bleed, HDMI 2.1, but with a IPS panel. It would cost £3k minimum, most likely closer to £5k.

CX48 at £1450 (or cheaper) is infinitely better value. You could use one for 2 years, have it burn in (won't happen, but lets just say it does..), then buy another, and still have saved money compared to buying the imaginary Asus equivalent spec monitor, which still doesn't exist.

In my eyes it's a no-brainer, CX48 is the best 4K monitor by a long shot, as long as you have a decent sized desk/room.

Games/movies/TV looks absolutely spectacular, it's the best purchase I've made for my PC for many, many years. The last monitor that wow'd me was the NEC LCD20WGX2 back in the day, this ramps it up x1000!
I'd have one tomorrow if they offered it in 38". 48" is just too large for my desk day to day sadly.

That one only G-sync compatible so it will most likely only support a G-sync range of 48 to 144hz
Not so much of a problem on low resolution monitors like 1080p as it easier to keep the FPS high

Proper G-sync screens normally cover the whole range ;) For example 1 to 144hz

That's G-sync ultimate now I believe..? The LG 38GL950G is the same panel with the G-Sync module, more expensive - 21 extra refreshes and crappier HDR -- if you wanted one with the G-sync :p I'd go for the GN over the GL given the choice... though I ended up buying the AW3821DW - which I *think* is the same panel again, but with ALIENWARE plastered on it :D

But isn't the AW3821DW HDR 600 & G-sync ultimate ?

Aww crap - gave in and went for the AW3821DW... the additional 4years no question advanced exchange warranty for £40 was a no brainer

FreeSync monitors with Low Framerate Compensation work exactly same way...
And as well: Some 10Hz won't ever be pretty.

Acer Nitro 27". Awesome monitor. I have it to the left of my Asus 34" and it's the same physical vertical size.

Each to this own, but 27" is a tiny monitor size that's barely enough for 1440P in my eyes. 4K needs at least 32" to be worthwhile, not to mention having enough screen space to become immersed.

40" version of the CX48 would be the perfect size IMO, but no signs they'll ever make such a panel. Sigh.

The only exception I see are the ultra elite competitive esports professionals, who still enjoy 24" 1080P for any 0.001% advantage it offers in regards to frame times etc.

I didn't realise Freesync monitors were so bad
If i got this right you mean Free-sync doesn't work if the FPS in a game is anywhere in the range between 1 to 47fps ?

As that can be useless for very demanding games or if you haven't got a very high end Gpu as it can be hard to keep over 50fps min in games like FS2020, Cyberpunk etc at high resolutions

Good choice I don't think you will be dissappointed!!
Discovering I get 20% discount from work for Dell helped the decision along although this place is a bad influence. I had logged on just to see what was going on and came away a grand worse off :D

Speaking of which, given the size of the supplied stand can anyone recommend a decent monitor arm to cope with this beastie?

Yo just found I can also get 20% off. Where did you find the £40 warranty thing?

Have you got it yet?
