RTX 3090 upgrade

Congrats on the 3090s guys. I think that I 'unfortunately' will go that route too. In an ideal world I would wait for the 3080 or the 3080-ti but the likelihood of either of these being available within months are slim to none existent. I have been using stock tracker apps for a few weeks and still can't even get close to one. A typical Indian dish store allegedly keep having them but I don't believe it as have never managed to get to checkout.

I am in the fortunate position where I can afford a 3090 and with lockdowns continuing for the foreseeable future, gaming provides a nice release from the monotony of working from home and the brief periods of allowed exercise outdoors! I have been running MSI Afterburner whilst playing Warzone and I still have no idea why one game is consistent 90 FPS and the next is 40 FPS. I can only assume it's the server as GPU/CPU usage stays the same. I'm looking forward to seeing what a 3090 can do, just need to find one!

I have ordered more RAM and will see how my PSU copes before upgrading that.

Edit - would ideally like a 3090 FE but cannot even find a pre-order for that. At least a certain e-store is pre-ordering AIBs for delivery next week.

I went the same route today, really I wanted a 3080 but I can afford the 3090 so I grabbed one. Mine should arrive tomorrow hopefully. The endless fighting to get to webpages first, endless Discord notices got boring.

My first flagship card, I'm pretty interested to see how it performs!

I won't have any issues with the case or mobo with the rtx 3090 will I? I can't see any issues from a search but I am aware these cards are a lot bigger than my 2070 SUPER.

Can’t speak for the AIB’s but the 3090FE is shorter than the triple fan Zotac 2080Ti it replaced.

It’s a pretty fat cooler but not too long. As long as you’re not using the bottom bays in your case then you should have no problems at all.

Thanks @HRL My next concern will be cooling!

Not sure how many fans you have but I’ve 2 x intake at front, 1 x exhaust at rear, and 3 x exhaust at top. At stock the FE runs pretty cool as it expels some of the heat straight out of the rear. I’ve had lower CPU temps since installing the 3090FE but others have had temp increases.

Yep, it all depends on your cooling config.

BTW, I didn’t use alerts or trackers to get mine, just kept checking the Nvidia store a few times a day. The 3090 doesn’t seem to sell out as quickly as the others, presumably due to cost.

I will hopefully get a card and see how it performs before changing anything, though I expect I could do with additional cooling to feel comfortable with it.

I have been monitoring that this week without seeing anything, though that could well be due to the Christmas period to be fair.

Yeah, next week would be a better bet.

Especially look around the 2pm-3pm times if you can as they seem the most common for the FE to pop back up.

Thanks for the advice. I'll wait and see if I can get one next week as those pre-orders for AIB cards are not until the Friday anyway.

Forget stock tracker apps everyone is using them. The 3090 AIB's are available if you just look on websites or use google. Mine's an AIB card and I've got good airflow so under heavy gaming I'm seeing mid 60c which is way better than my 5700XT. If you look enlightenment you might find especially with Nvidia resellers.

AIB is what I got also, no issues with case or temps (its a big case).

This is also my first flagship card, it makes a change to be able to experience that, but so far it has been money well spent. I am blown away by the improvement in VR alone.

Like you guys, I got bored of the stocktracker / discord game play loop. Stock is pretty good on these cards, so you should have no issue, just keep checking.

Luckily I checked my case (Fractal Arc Midi) and ended up removing the last drive cage. My Vega56 just fit before but now I have tons of space. I have 2x 140mm front intakes, 1x 140mm rear exhaust and 1x 140mm top exhaust.

Generally things are quite cool but I will find out tomorrow when my card arrives. I got the shipment notice so fingers crossed! Luckily my new PSU arrived today as well.

I had to buy a new case in anticipation of the 3000 series. I used to have a Corsair 740, which is a very roomy case, but it is also fairly short. Alas it just limited me too much when it came to the 3000 series, most cards would not fit. Not wanting to resort to removing a front fan, I just bought one of the new mesh cases. Have to say it was a great decision, they run are really cool.

I suspect I will end up upgrading my case but just want to see how it gets on first @pp111

My 2070 SUPER hits 80C and really heats up my office. I have seen that the new cards run cooler but I don't fancy my room getting even warmer (ignoring the impact on the card/pc itself)!

Got the Palit gamingpro at launch and being using it since under water. Great card and clocks well even for a card limited to a 104% power limit which translates to around 370w max. From what i've seen the difference between the cards is neglible, maybe a few fps at most. The only place where you'll see a bigger difference is in benchmarks where the lower tier cards will be a few thousand points behind the higher ones, otherwise no you're not really gonna notice it. I'd say get the coolest/quietest card you can being the FE or a big mutha like the TUF gaming cards etc.

Um! Something wrong there. I have not yet seen my 2070S hit 50 degrees.

@pp111 mine is idling at 54...

It looks like I will need to sort it out then. Might as well get a new case and cooler if I am going to go down the 3090 route. I know nothing about water cooling so will have to stick with an AIO water cooler at best?

Thanks for the advise @Jay85 I'm going to try and get hold of the FE next week, if not then possibly the MSI SUPRIM.
