Hello, I already have the above components (I am building a new 4k gaming PC).

I need some advice on the rest of the build, I need hardware capable of strong gaming and streaming e.g. 32/48 or 64gb of RAM and a case big enough to fit the 5080.

Air cooling is a must, I don’t trust liquid cooled because of the leak and damage risk.

I am also looking for the best 27 inch monitor to match. I know 27 inches is small for 4k but I am shortsighted or perhaps you could convince me otherwise.

Ideally I don’t want this build to go higher than £2750 although there’s some flexibility if it’s a key component.

Thank you.

Hi there I am short sighted as well and I couldn't get on with 27 inch 4k if anything I found it compounded the issue even more. Is there anywhere nearby where you can self test a 27 and a 32 inch 4k monitor.

So if you are building a 9800x3d/5080;setup and you have those components already your budget gives you a lot of leeway and plenty of options.

Get a moderately priced AM5 board for around the 200-250 mark unless you need some specific like usb4 from the x870e.

For ram get the 32/48 or 64gb variant of c30 6000 MHz ram as they will all work. You decide what size you want and there are plenty of options to choose from.

Cases take your pick Lian li vision, phanteks nv7 or nv5, antec c8 pick that you like the look of. They will all fit the 5080.

Air cooling the go thermal right peerless assassin or if you want to splash a bit more than the new noctua dh15. Most of this will come in way below your proposed budget unless you a monitor like the Asus QD oled 32 inch or say the Samsung go neo

I forgot to add the budget is including the £1700 I paid for the gpu and cpu

okay so you have about 1k for motherboard, ram, power supply, air cooler and case? Oops and a monitor.
Aye, I think it’s the monitor that’s going to be the budget buster… I mean is there really that much of a difference between the ASUs rog 32 inch monitor you mentioned or a £400-500 equivalent?

I was just using that as an example. Asus tends to be on the pricier side of things. Get the one that has good warranty, customer service, good reviews and most importantly the ability to fit within your budget.

It looks as if Nvidia are playing silly buggers with its cards availability again to pad prices, so I wouldn’t hold my breath for RTX5080.

For me 4K at 32” is a little squinty and needs scaling. I wouldn’t even consider anything smaller than 32 and 40-43” is about ideal running 4K native.

I use scaling on my 32. Like 225%

850w psu should be fine? Also does the ‘gold’ ‘silver’ etc rating just refer to how efficient the energy usage is?

So a 9800x3d uses about 50w-80w during gaming and a a 5080 uses roughly 300-350w depending if you have clocked it and the various manufacturers vary slightly then factor in another 70-100w for motherboards, fans etc so a 850 should be fine for that providing you don't plan to go to the 5090 anytime soon.

Yes the gold and silver rating refers to the efficiency of a power supply under a certain load.

My selection so far (including the 9800x3D and Rtx 5080).

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,014.79 (includes delivery: £11.98)

Could I have some advice on cost cutting this or have I got the best components I need for this PC? I haven’t built one since 2017 so I’m wary of course.

Also is it better to go for a full tower case over a mid tower as it is naturally cooler?

Lose the windows 11 licence. Just download the freely available win 11 iso from Microsoft instead. If they ask for activation you can get it for 10-15 or if you are a total cheapazz like me we will leave the activation watermark on...

Forego the SsD and get an equivalent size nvme drive like the Samsung 990 pro or whatever.

Lose the Corsair ram and and get the same equivalent minus the Corsair tax.

That will save you about 120 and you will still get the same functionality and performance.

Full size PSU as the Antec in your list is SFX. (only has 8 year warranty)
NVME drive with DRAM cache, you could save another £20 by getting the WD SN770 with no DRAM.
You want EXPO RAM, which is cheaper anyway.
That's £100 saved and if you get cheap Windows you will save a lot more.
You could get a cheaper motherboard as well.

Cool. Ok now all I need is a white motherboard recommendation to complete my now all white build. I’m pairing it with the H70 touch case.

It just needs to get the best out of all my components.

Is there any truth in that ASUS motherboards cook the cpu?

How does the Gigabyte Auros Elite ice compare to Asrock models at a similar price?

I don’t understand whether this is good enough https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...t-am5-ddr5-atx-motherboard-mot-gig-03320.html

Or I need something like this: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...t-am5-ddr5-atx-motherboard-mot-gig-03317.html

I’d consider a 1440p 240hz OLED for the 5080, at 4k it already struggles to get above 60fps in some games and will only get worse.
