RTX 5080 Owners Thread

So with the new hotfix drivers its been a small improvement in steel Nomad now.

Retired my 3080Ti and I have the 5080 Palit Gaming pro, seems a nice upgrade, the 5080 clocks nicely and its not too loud with the fans cranking up stock, anyone put one on water in here, seems to clock well if cooled appropriately but fan noise a little too much when I set the fand to keep it at 60ish even with a little undervolt.

That is very interesting to me as I am planning an upgrade from a 3090 with a 5900x to a 5080 with a 9800x3 and your score is a lot better than mine @ 4887 so it shows its worthwhile

It's a good bump from a 3090 and you'll probably get decent money back on the 3090 but looking at scores and comparing scores won't give you the best idea, for example I'm guessing you've just got stock air on the 3090 as my 3080Ti was ~5500 in that benchmark with good cooling, the 3090 was still the better card for actual games.

Probably better to look at some gaming reviews where the setup is normalised as it might not be as big of a bump as you expect, its certainly nowhere near the ~90% bump this benchmark might suggest, more like 40%.

The 5080 is a nice little card to play with it'll clock nicely I have 9600 in that benchmark, my card has capped power though being the billy basic one but with tweaking and cooling still chuggs along with clock bumps @ +400 +3000

I went from a 3090FE to a 5080 (MSI Gaming Trio).

The drivers have been a 'rocky ride' shall we say, but things seem to be settling down. Overall I think it's a significant upgrade and I'm glad I did it. I overpaid a fair bit as I jumped in week 1 of release like an idiot, but if you buy now at more sensible prices then I'd say go for it.

Not had any real VRAM issues either, and I game in VR too, which the 5080 is starting to stretch its legs in nicely as it likes the memory speeds and bandwidth, especially with a nice overclock.
I've got a Pimax Crystal Super on order, which is stupidly high res, so I'll be interested to see how it peforms in VR here. I normally upgrade GPUs every 2 gens, but if the Crystal Super turns out reeeally good I might consider a 6090. But I've told myself only if they significantly change the design and power usage. 600w put me right off the 5090. Ridiculous. My undervolted/ overclocked 5080 barely breaks 250w in most games....

Got a Zotac Solid OC today, didn't exactly need to upgrade I just fancied something quicker + try out MFG

in CP2077 MFG 4X feels way too floaty and loads of glitches/artifacts in the dogtown indoor area, it also felt floaty in Harry Potter but 3X in both games felt just like normal FG too me just with the extra smoothness

I dunno if I'm going crazy but performance in some games is wild, like TLOU Part 2 I was getting 80-90 on my 4080 with DLSS4 Performance @ 4K no FG and with this its always 120+, most of time 140 in zone I'm currently at in game, I kinda wish I had jotted down some FPS examples before I swapped the card

Overall a mixed bag so far, I maybe should have kept my 5090 order but I'll do bit more testing

Forgot to say I've got it running at +300 on core (3090mhz) seemingly stable at no extra power limit, and +500 on memory

Still extra overclocking room… 2000 mem easily. Most will do 3000 with edited afterburner.

I’ve not noticed anything in terms of glitches and artefacts in cyberpunk with x4. It’s probably the best example of a game where mfg works extremely well. Works great with 240hz display. Latency doesn’t feel an issue at around 45/ms at x 4.

Yeah it was just a quick OC that I knew would work since I was just impatient to try stuff out ha

Maybe it's latest patch, I don't play CP2077 much, mainly for benchmarking etc but x4 deffo feels much less weighty and lighter when moving my character in comparison to x2 and x3

I bumped memory to +2000 but core isn't stable past about 3150 in Cyberpunk at least, I've settled on 3120-3130 which was +340 so good bit less then what I have been seeing but it's still a nice gain overall, that's with 111% power limit that this Zotac has

Honestly I think the 2000 limit being in place is just because Samsung, SK Hynix etc... knowing it can easily do that but didn't want to bother with instability from going beyond it.

In most games with MFG I never see an improvement from going with x3 or x4, Infact sometimes it gets worse and GPU usage goes down.

I would like to know if a support is needed for the card. I have been using a 3090 without a bracket but will be getting a 5080 soon. Is the 5080 a heavy card?

I imagine it depends on the model but I'd say so, my Zotac is a chunky card and I wouldn't feel comfortable using it without. It's over 2kg, significantly heavier than the Nitro+ 6800XT I had previously.

I have a palit 5080 gaming pro its a chunk boy but don't feel it needs any support but my motherboard has some solid titanium reinforced slot stuff so maybe it is doing its job.
