RTX 5080 Won’t boot unless it’s fully power cycled

One minute it switches to CSM automatically. Then it automatically switches to UEFI. Have you got any links for how I would downgrade the bios, would i just flash it with an older version?
You don't need to downgrade the BIOS, if you install Windows with CSM enabled, I think it will automatically install it in legacy mode instead of UEFI.

Though, from this:
It’s just the powering issue. When the powers completely drained and I start it up it always displays either no VBios support or no GOP. After i shutdown the pc it refuses to post and crashes at VGA and just keeps trying to reboot itself.
I don't know if it will solve your problem.

Have you tried using HDMI or DP, by the way?

If I do have to upgrade what MOBO/CPU pairings would you recommend in the current climate?
What do you do with the PC? Is it only gaming?

A relatively cheap option would be a 12600K (£150) and a B760 motherboard, with your RAM re-used.

Good luck, hope it all works out well for you.
What did you order?
If you ordered what I suggested, just FYI: make sure it wasn't a DDR5 variant if you're planning to re-use your RAM. Easy to miss.

Ended up getting a new Mobo + CPU + RAM

MSI Z790 tomahawk
i9-14900KF
Some ddr5 (6000mhz) RAM

I put it all in, and now it works! The issue was most definitely the old Mobo; it was just annoying that I had to upgrade everything, but nevermind...

Thanks for the help gents

Flash to the latest motherboard bios and run Intel defaults. That way hopefully your 14900k won't degrade.

And have it nerfed by approx 20%

My 13900K can break 40,000 Cinebench R23 just by setting a small voltage offset to keep temps under control
Setting Intel default limits pushes my score down to 34,000

Better off getting the performance you paid for, then if it degrades RMA it in a couple of years time and get something new.

Twas not a happy ending, I still need to RMA...

I was looking at GPU-Z and it turns out the GPU was throttling due to overheating.

HWinfo said that the VRAM was running at 120 degrees Celsius, causing the throttling. I don't know if it's a sensor issue or it is running over, but I never saw it drop below 120 at all.

(These were on regular clocks btw...)

Crazy stuff; hopefully, the next card works!

Can I ask if you have your new card and if it solved the problem? I'm having the exact same problem but with different hardware (B650, 7800x3d, MSI 5080 Shadow) . I've tried everything. The card works fine in windows temps are all OK, just get the "GOP / VBIOS" errors every now and then.

I could live with this but because the bios is being changed I have to enter my bitlocker recovery key every time the error comes up. I've tried the GPU in a B550 mobo and don't get the same error. I'm still within my return window so think I might just return it.

I needed to buy a new Z790 Mobo to solve my initial issue, which DID fix the "GOP / VBIOS" issue.

I RMA'd the card because it also happened to be thermal throttling, and the temperatures were sky-high for no apparent reason.

I could've tried the new GPU on my old Mobo, but if it did work, I would've upgraded my CPU/MOBO for no reason... I would try it out for you though, but i’ve just posted it back home from my Uni flat today and won’t be able to test till i’m home mid-may.

There's always the issue that when you RMA, they'll say there's nothing wrong with it since it works on their newer MOBOS (this is what the gents on here pointed out).

Are you within the 14-day return window? Might be able to return and get a 40-series for better compatibility.

What CPU are you using as well? I thought that my issue might have been caused by my MOBO being forced to GEN 3 PCIE (which happens with a 10-series), and the card didn't like it.

My cpu and mobo are pretty up to date which makes me wonder why there is a problem (I've tried a 40 series in it and don't get the error messages). And the 5080 works fine in another computer I have, so I don't understand the problem. I'm still within the return window so I'm going to return it. Thanks for the reply

If you have had the card for 14 days or less, you can return it no matter what.

If you're only within 30 days, they might say there's nothing wrong when testing it, as it works on the B550 mobo, so chances are it would probably work fine on theirs.

Any updates?

I got a refund for the 5080. I've decided to get a 5090 eventually - if I get the same error then it's probably the motherboard. The fact the 5080 worked fine in an older mobo probably points to a motherboard error anyway. Have you had any problems since?

Getting a similar issue with my Asus b650, 7950x3d and msi shadow, only installed the card on Friday and it has been fine until yesterday evening when I got home from work it wouldn't boot, was getting a green and white error led on the post lights which leads to a gpu fault, can boot when I turn off psu and switch back on and press power button at the same time hardly ideal

My card was also an MSI Shadow. I ended up returning it. I'm waiting to get a 5090 for a decent price - if I get the same error it looks like it's time for a motherboard replacement.
