Rugby union?

Probably you lot getting all excited because we beat Argentina.

We looked bad, 4th red since March is not officiating schemeing against us lol, it's poor discipline.

Urgh I could go on but meh.

A&D survived with one man down -

but how that was a red card - he recklessly set himself up on a trajectory to bang heads with the guy ? where he could equally be injured kamikaze..
versus the Argie card whih seemed premeditated

Unlike most of the games in the last year when ill discipline has looked a feature of our game and the cards a more natural consequence I felt the team were reasonably disciplined and Curry's card felt more like outlier.

I do think the officials need to consider the speed of some of the engagements more, Steward's red card versus island for instance. TMO's are agonisingly repeating an incident in slo-mo for which a player gets a fraction of a second to react to.

Farrell and Vunipola got cards because they like to use the shoulder and go high, they have done for years and I have no sympathy. But that wasn't what happened to Steward and even Curry isn't trying go high things just didn't happen the way he expected when he made split second decision. I think there is, or should be, room for "rugby incidents" in the game.

Who's getting over excited? Just people praising what was a good performance. Its a world cup, to go a man down after 3 minutes and win convincingly against a team higher then you in the world rankings is a very good result.

Yeah the red card was ridiculous. As you say, in slow motion everything looks premeditated and planned when the reality is a split second decision was taken and something bad happened.

I thought the Argentine players foul was far worse from that perspective. He knew where the kicker was and jumped into him, hip to head. Bizarre decision making.

I think slow motion should be primarily used for checking points of contact, and confirming whether tries are good. Using it for deciding whether a tackle is bad is just flawed. Watching the Argentina player coming through the air and then clashing heads with Tom Curry over the space of 5 seconds makes the act look so much worse than true speed - a few 10ths of a second and a head collission. In hindsight it's a clumsy tackle and the laws are the laws, but there was absolutely no malice in that move.

What's the consensus on today's matches. Can Scotland and Wales get wins?
I think Scotland is going to struggle against the Boks. They just look to be on another level right now, and it's a game they really need to win too. In that group no team wants to lose a game as that makes you reliant on other games in the group going your way to progress.
Wales, I'm not sure on. Like England, they've not been playing great. Meanwhile Fiji have looked pretty deadly at times, but have lost their first choice Fly Half Muntz, which is a big loss. Should be exciting to watch either way.

Good performance from England against a side that were inept at best.

Also I think there is still a huge question mark about Englands attacking ability.

I know World Rugby is worried about all the lawsuits but if they carry on implementing the "keeping you safe" laws like they are at the moment then within a few years they will be playing touch rugby at International level.

If the Fiji that beat England turns up Wales are in trouble, they were dire during the 6 Nations and they've not looked any better in the warm up games.
I'm about to head out and get my table for the South Africa v Scotland game.... I think it could go either way but I do fear a possible pasting as well, Scotland need to start fast and cut out some of the silly error's that seemed to creep in against Georgia in our last game.

I don't think SA are as good as their win against the All Blacks made them look, NZ didn't seem to turn up that night - results so far have suggested that the warm up results aren't neccesarily an indicator with some teams doing better than expected in their first game (England/Australia especially) and some looking a lot worse than their pre-WC games suggested (Georgia and Argentina in particular)

Anyway.... us Scots must be due a win against Ireland, its been 6 years!

You should have had some wins by now but the ref went against you in a couple of them. Like...stupidly so.

If world rugby is so concerned then why wasn't the argentinian player taken off for an immediate HIA?

Agreed, I don’t think anyone on here was firing up the ‘it’s coming home’ bandwagon after that performance!

It was what it was, a great performance by a team that has been incredibly poor recently. There will be much much tougher challenges ahead if they want to still be in it at the business end.

But you would at least expect them to get out of the group now (barring a loss against Japan and Samoa!) and even that was far from certain before they started!

I don't get that, it's mental. Surely if a tackle warrants a card the player should be checked (where there's contact)

I don't think anyone on here is but some of the stuff from the media is already cringe.
