Rumour: Doom 4 Development Suspended Following Rage Disappointment

Who let the fan boys in, is this not about Doom 4? Can you keep your bickering out of PC games please

There is clearly driver problems which are being addressed by id and AMD

These problems happen, to both companies. Maybe AMD more so, IDK. What does one have to gain from bashing the other manufacturer than their own preferred brand?

Well both AMD and id have confirmed that the game works flawlessly on the development drivers at id - so its a bit strange they are back tracking issues in the publicly released drivers that have already been fixed in the development drivers :S

Despite how it may look I'm not actually out to take advantage of any chance to bash AMD here :D, just don't like it when the AMD fan boys bash RAGE for problems that are 100% AMD driver issues and not technical issues with the game itself.

To be fair, I had some small flickering in RAGE on the 10.11s, but it certainly was still more than playable. The RAGE drivers sorted that totally, can't complain at all.

As for ID, can't see this being true. Carmack and Co. would simply walk out if Bethesda tried to stick their oar in. I fully expect "**** off and leave us alone to develop our games" was one of the first things written into the takeover contract. :D

Doom is not that big a brand anyway nowadays its been dormant far too long. Doom3 sold 3.5M units most of those were on the Xbox1 PC sold poorly & was pirated heavily.

The publisher screwed up big time with Doom3. They set an EU release date a staggering TEN DAYS(!!!!) after the NA release date. This was sheer lunacy in the mid-noughties when piracy was starting to become mainstream.

With a AAA title like D3 people were so desperate to get their hands on it that they would obviously download rather than wait a couple of weeks for it to be available. Even stalwart id fans who would happily shell out for their latest offering, if it had been available to buy.

Nowadays we've got digital distribution and there is absolutely no excuse for them making the same mistake again - do a worldwide launch at the same time.

In terms of Doom4 I think it will still sell, Rage I was never convinced about it sounded as though it was kind of tech demo with vehicles thrown in. I've been interested in every id release since Doom2 until this one but Doom4 would definitely get me interested.

Agree with Hangtime. I admit to downloading Doom 3 to get my hands on it a few days early. Of course, I then went out and bought the full game at release as well, to support the developers.

.

Ever think they changed something close to release that wasn't accounted for in the driver? It was mentioned that carmack said they were going to tweak the pc version as long as they could seeing as theres no validation for pc games. Its very possible and more likely that id did something that broke the previously functional AMD drivers.

Of course (as usual) this never occured to you, am i suprised? Nope, far easier and more likely for you to go the "herp derp amd driver issues" route.

Assumption... your gonna have to do better than that you have no idea if I took that into account or not.

I really couldn't care what you take into account from this point on, your Rhetoric is like someone from 2001 talking when ati drivers did actually have issues. Its just amusing you've deluded yourself into believing you're "impartial" when the average blind man can see otherwise.

Get a room you two

Having done a few searches it seems the only source for the sensationalist story was Kotaku, taking a tweet out of context

Kotaku said:
Remember that, before you get too invested in this, at the moment the news is entirely unconfirmed. We've contacted Bethesda for comment and clarification, and will update if we hear back.

Translated to we made it up 'caus it sounds more interesting

As reported by The Escapist

Despite what you may have heard, Bethesda Softworks says Doom 4 has not been postponed.

It's kind of unusual to report that a game isn't delayed but in this case I think it's worth making an exception. Kotaku reported earlier today that in the wake of the less-than-spectacular launch of Rage , which was blamed on both shallow gameplay and a host of technical problems, Zenimax and Bethesda had expressed "a serious lack of confidence in the project management at id" and had thus decided to "indefinitely postpone" Doom 4. Doom 4 was announced more than three years ago but other projects, which is to say Rage, have taken priority.

Still, while an indefinite delay is not good news for fans of the franchise, here's something that is: there is no delay. "Complete ********," Pete Hines, Bethesda's vice president of marketing, tweeted in response to the report. "Re: Doom 4 rumor, games are done when they are done and no title under development at id has been postponed - indefinitely or otherwise," he added in a followup .

So honest mistake or cynical attempt to drive clicks?

If they are going suspend work on Doom4 over teething problems for some people with a brand new game engine, then by the same logic there will never be another Fallout game.

I didn't buy New Vegas until at least 6 months after release and even after the last massive patch it's still a mess.

To be fair ATI have always been regarded as having dodgy OGL drivers, and since so few games get developed on it now it is quite hard for them to shift that reputation even if it based on past experiences rather than current performance and compatibility. The main game I play uses OGL and people always advise Nvidia hardware to run it, it's so old now of course that issues aren't really of any interest to people moving forward.

I'd be surprised if it was a publicity stunt because some of the mud might stick, they won't want too much negativity around Rage so close to release when it could still be shifting plenty of units in the run up to Christmas. If this story had come out in say 6 months time I might be more sceptical.

LOL.

There was me thinking you might come back with a point instead of more AMD fanboy tears :D

Further more to your previous point, the game as shipped was confirmed as working properly on the AMD test systems at id, using the latest provided AMD development drivers by both id studio and AMD, so its unlikely any last minute changes by id broke things.

Right so the drivers just magically broke themselves when they were released after being the same ones being tested?

Amd fanboy? Hardly, i couldnt care less whats in my system, at the time i was buying 2gb 6970's made more sense than having a slightly faster card with around half a gig less ram as the system was built for multi monitor.

Funny thing is you can't make the same claim, you're like a pre-programmed drone spewing out the same crap time and time again. Then again we're always guaranteed a few laughs when you try to play your "impartiallity" card. Its such a Transparant act that nobody but you believes it.

I've never played the impartiality card, ever. You can find dozens of posts where I've been upfront that I'm nVidia bias.

The public release drivers are not the same as the development drivers so they didn't "magically" break themselves... if your not an AMD fanboy I'm a little puzzled why I seem to work you up so much over having an opinion.

EDIT: CBA to go find every instance but heres 3 posts alone where I'm completely upfront about my allegiances - you'll easily find a dozen more going back many years:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=19837076&postcount=57

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=17794100&postcount=21

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=15645320&postcount=195

So your claim about me claiming "impartiality" is ludicrous at best.

Probably because your pre-programmed "opinion" never changes whether its on this forum or the graphics forum, its always the same sad boring rhetoric we've read many times before.

I can only assume ati somehow made you Butthurt years ago and it still stings to this day.
