Running car without an alternator

Got 30 minutes out of my Elise running without the stereo, lights, heater or roof in the middle of winter. That was a fun trip up the M6 ;)

20 mins i reckon.

Ive done this, connection came of my battery but didnt have time to fix it, light was on lasted about 20 mins on the motorway till it died and i had to fix it. :p

My old VW Splitty had no alternator (dyno) for weeks before I eventually noticed it wasnt starting right. One good long trickle charge and she saw me cover 375 miles and 4 engine starts!

But then, the sparkies were the only thing electrical that was on....

Roll on the good ol' days!

By the way, I'd stick a new battery on it. Given that the alty is knackered I'd say that it will have been fully discharged and re-charged a few times resulting in it not taking a lot of charge :)

I know what a Mk1 Rover 200 is Zip :p

I was just thinking of the Mk2's... and Vitesse models are normally the quickest in the range. I was trying to imagine a turbocharged 216 GTi or something :D

I managed to drive from the dartford crossing to norfolk without the car charging. The alternator disintergrated after I went a bit quick to catch up with the rest of the convoy I was with. I also managed to do the same thing a year later on another car club convoy. lol.

Haha, would be funny to try that little 'experiment' never done it personally myself!

Yeah send it in to clarkson in Top Gear for one of the experiments they do :D

Well guys, it lasted...

18 minutes

So my original estimate of 15-20 minutes was spot on!
All these people who reckon they ran for a week off the battery are jokers :p

Yup, fully charged and yes with nothing else on that didnt need to be on as it was daylight

Plus it started on the turn of the key, jap engine after all :p ;)
