Well I've just explained that different insurers see that differently.

The performance difference isn't huge because the weight difference isn't huge. There is only 50-100kg in it.

Yup, does go to show it's not all insurance groups, bhp and 0-62 times as the RX-8 is one of the lowest groups, smallest bhp and slowest cars.

Are there any online american car insurers or would I need to phone up?

Phone up; try A-Plan, Adrian Flux, and MCE (although they have a hit and miss rep).

You shouldn't need a plate number for a quote from any of the above.

See. I told you its useless without the driver profile. For you the Mercedes SLK is going to be the most expensive to run. (The servicing and fuel costs will outstrip the 350Z). For me it is less likely as for my profile I know for a fact the Boxster is more to insure than the SLK.

Did a confused.com quote for all the cars (bar the top 3 - Mustang is obviously specialist only and didn't have time to find a reg for the C350 and XF 4.2).

350Z the most expensive, my Bravo the cheapest. 130i cheaper than an ST. 335i less than £1000!

Not sure how the 350z is so expensive, wasn't that bad for me and I have taken out a policy with Bell. Believe me, I was really anal about spending money on insurance, it basically decided my car options for me....and I wouldn't have a 350z if insurance came out over £2k

Yup, another reason why saying "Buy a Mondeo/Focus/Saxo/XXX it was uber cheap to insure" isn't always so cut and dry.

Yeah I don't think I could pay £2k for insurance. For something really special I think I'd be willing to pay £1250-£1500 but it would really have to rock my socks.

The list of cars came about from the 3 petrol heads in the office, it was basically a list of cars between us that we think we could afford and would like to own. Obviously silly stuff like the Boxster, Elise, SLK, XF etc wasn't in my list as I'm only 21!

The few that interested me are the Mustang, 130i, 335i, 530i, z4, S2000, 630i and the Civic Type R. Interesting to see how they came out. I really was expecting the 335i to be mental on insurance and had practically discounted it already.

Try getting a quote from bell on a 350z, maybe the GT4 variant is cheaper on insurance (for unknown reasons...it's actually tuned over the standard model!)

It's not something I'm looking at, at the moment. It's not a car that has me frothing at the proverbials. Don't get me wrong very nice car but for the running costs there are cars I think I would much rather own, that being said I've not driven one yet.

Insurance aside, S2000 is not an expensive car to run. New pads for the front cost me an astronomical £26! One of the easiest cars ive worked on as well as far as servicing goes!

Are there not big suspension bills and the same with the roof if it breaks?
